Let me ask this - do you believe she actually has a job offer? I'm wondering if she's blowing smoke with that too hoping that you (or anyone else she tells) pass it on and management gets wind of it.
Can they withhold it if she came later? I'm so dumb about this stuff lol.
Many states have their own statutes regarding this, but people generally need their final check by the next regular payday. Some states require it immediately upon termination or within 48 hours.
My company fired/reorganized at least once a year, and people were generally let go on Friday mornings.
Then again, my boss and I were fired on a Monday morning.
My CW's H was a Sr VP there, and he had to fire half his staff on a Wednesday, and that evening he got an email for an 8am meeting the next day, for his firing.
Ouch.
This guy was hired to create a new brand/division, and he ran it successfully for 3 years. When the company decided they no longer needed the leverage in the marketplace, everyone involved was expendable.
He is a millionaire, was paid his salary for 12 months and is now an executive VP somewhere else. He felt bad for the regular people who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. We get 4 months of severance and can get unemployment on top, depending on our salaries.
is she married? Does her husband make enough money that they would be fine on one income? I'm just trying to figure out how the hell she's so casual about this.

No, she is single. But she is dating her DUI attorney.

Yes, bc she showed me. But she still has to pass a drug test, background check and all that jazz, so it's not finalized. She's nervous that they're asking if she's ever been on deferred judification (sp?) instead of if you've been convicted of a felony or whatever the standard jargon is.

One of the engineers here just stopped by to chat with me and his pov was "this is almost admirable. It's like the captain of the Titanic being calm while the ship sinks. She's completely unflappable." Lol!

Wait, her CURRENT attorney? Were they dating BEFORE he was her attorney? Because you are not supposed to have a "sexual relationship" with a client UNLESS the relationship existed prior to the attorney-client relationship.
If she is no longer a client, then whatever, but, yeah...

This is the timeline as I recall it:
1. Got DUI 2. Got lawyer. 3. Gets deferred judification. 4. Starts talking to lawyer, it fizzes out. 5. Sleeps with married guy at work for about six months. 6. Married guy gets fired for being a drunk. 7. She fucked up something with deferred judification so contacts lawyer again bc it's revoked (or something, idk I don't really listen) 8. Begins dating lawyer. Stuff for her DUI still going on.
Seriously, it's almost inspiring. Except I am not at all and just thinking about being that big of a fuckup at work is giving me secondhand anxiety. I have german anxiety for this woman.
I'm going to feel like I let you guys down if nothing happens Friday!
I feel like that's not possible.
Unless she doesn't show up after all (which she might not?) and then it just gets better.
You should "forget" something when you leave Friday so you have to come back at 3
Lol, I love you guys and this is definitely a interesting situation I've got going on currently, but I don't care THAT much to drive 30 miles round trip and pay the tolls for this closure. Nothing is worth Houston Friday traffic.
In all likelihood she'll probably text me because she thinks we're besties for the resties. Lol - if she does I promise I'll update.
On another note, she's still not back from her little excursion to her home to get probation paperwork. But she's texted me a list of reasons such as her scanner not working so having to go to FedEx, working on new job paperwork, having to fill up her tank and airing up her tires, and now her credit card information has been stolen. What a busy day.
Hasn't the VP waiting on the report came looking for her? I hope her lawyer / bf is going to support her, cause I think she's out of there, and her current law issues will probably knock her out of the new job.

He came looking around 7:50. Interim Manager provided it to him before she left for an offsite meeting.
Depends on the jurisdiction! When I was in law school, this was totally okay in CT - I know there's been talk in recent years of changing it, but I'm not sure if it went through!

I refuse to believe that there is a place of employment like this that hasn't gone under. He didn't say "Oh. Where the hell is she?" and then have someone follow up to let him know when she got there?

Well, I don't know what discussion he had with the manager. Manager is aware that she's still not back.
Lol, well, we're KIND OF going under. Layoffs are like a week away!
She's definitely pushed the limit, but there's a couple variables here. I think upper management was more focused on getting our boss out since they didn't like him over prioritizing getting her gone, a lot of people that work with her directly don't like her but with some of our restructuring things became more transparent a few months back to wider group (more management), I think they pushed to get me hired on before the layoff so that I wouldn't be let go as a contractor before her as a permanent employee, and frankly, since the layoff announcement in August there is a general apathy that's seeming to lift a bit. And we apparently have the longest probation processes ever, but it's a large company based overseas with like, 30 k employees.
lol, and FYC can attest to the fact our company has a reputation for some lackadaisical nonsense in the industry.
