And THIS is why we need some measure of gun control. Not take away everyone's guns, but maybe enact and enforce some reasonable regulations. This woman's permit to carry a handgun should be revoked because she clearly does not possess the judgment necessary to carry a handgun in public. I don't know what, if any, education Michigan requires people to take before they can be issued a CHL, but perhaps the requirements should be reviewed.
I've never taken a concealed weapon course, but don't they cover the topic that it doesn't give you the ok to go around Yosemite Sam-ing all over the place?
You'd think so. It depends on state. Several don't require a permit for concealed carry at all. Some only require one for non-residents. Others only require one in urban areas. Then in states that do require a permit the class varies. I read one article that claimed the concealed carry "class" could be done in five minutes at a gun show in Florida.

Georgia doesn't require a class at all to get a carry permit. You just apply, pay the fee, get a background check, and you're good to go.

Swell
I'd really like to live in a place where I don't have to fear idiots.
I could pass a background check easily. I'm clean as a whistle! Yet, I still have NO BUSINESS carrying a gun around. I'd almost certainly shoot myself or someone else accidentally, and if by chance an actual encounter occurred where I needed that gun for self defense I'd almost certainly be unable to access or use it successfully.
So obviously somebody with no arms training or training in reacting to high stress situations shouldn't be allowed to carry a gun around. RIGHT??!!!
If they don't charge her that would be truly terrible. It sends a message that if you do shoot at a "villain" even if you aren't "successful" in saving the day, all you'll get is a slap on the wrist.
You definitely know she is not black or Hispanic because the article calls it an "attempted shooting". You can't do that. You either shoot or you don't. And she did. They are already trying to minimize what she did. But she shot at a person with a gun. Attempted murder. Asshole.

I think there is more red tape to volunteer in my kids class.
Police are deciding whether to charge her. Its tough, because on the one hand, she did shoot a gun in public endangering many lives, but on the other hand, she's white.
I still can't see anywhere whether she's White. There is VERY little information on her. Oh, but her age is either 46 or 47 or 48, lol. And it was a 9MM.
And this article mentions another recent shooting, where I guess the CPL holder shot a bank robber. At least that makes sense, and the guy intentionally shot the robber in the arms and leg. "The older man, who has a permit to carry a concealed pistol, pulled out a handgun and shot the bandit once in each arm and once in a leg, law enforcement authorities said." www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2015/10/video_released_of_suspected_sh.html

I have my carry permit for TN. I had to sit through an 8 hour course, pass a written test, shooting test and (I think...memory is fuzzy) background check. I think that's fair, although I certainly wouldn't object even more regulations (for contrast, I bought the pass for the class on Groupon...)My instructor told us, you are only to shoot if you are in fear of your life and safety. Or something along those lines.
I was terrified waiting for my shooting test. These people were just waving guns around in the waiting area, nevermind the fact we'd just sat through an 8 hour course that included gun safety. I knew they weren't loaded, but still...no respect. There were lots of people that insisted they'd shoot anyone who intruded in their house. I have a feeling most would cower in the corner.

Were these people still issued permits?
Yes, assuming they passed.
I held mine, or set it on the table. They were holding it in their hands and talking with their hands, looking down the muzzle. Idiots.
