edit: like not the ones who like to murder people, the ones that have no empathy
This could make sense. And it may even be an excellent quality for a neurosurgeon. He can focus on the exact job and not worry that there's a person's life at stake.
But isn't that the MO of the Tea Party these days? Who cares if people starve to death so long as we meet our bottom line "cut the budget in all ways possible" goals?
I'm not surprised by this statement/reaction at all. I think a lot of 2nd Amendment pushers and tea party wingnuts feel this way. The only difference with this one is that he has actually seen the physical damage these weapons can do and is choosing to turn a blind eye to it.
I don't see how. I really don't. When he first started to pop on the political landscape, I thought "Oh, huh - interesting. He's darn smart" and being SO respected in Baltimore, I had good thoughts at first.
But now? He's making a mockery of his legacy. He just seems DUMB to me now and I've lost ALL respect. I can't reconcile that this is the same Ben Carson who was the revered neurosurgeon.
i dont think he is dumb. i just think this is pandering done so hard by someone that cant really do it that well that we can all see how off it is

It just makes me think he is a brilliant surgeon that probably had a horrible bedside manner. His lack of compassion is astounding given his line of work.

This is not true. I have a close relative who has been operated on by Dr. Carson several times, and the parents adored him. He took an unbelievable amount of time with them to answer questions and just make sure they were ok. He did stress the importance of prayer, which would have bothered me but worked for this couple.
He just needs to stick to where his considerable talents lie. And it is NOT politics or governing.
Did I phrase it as truth? It is just an opinion based on the tone deaf statements he had made. And glad your friend had a good experience.
Christ on a cracker. Those were PEOPLE. With families and friends that loved them. They are more important than a goddamn gun.
Right?! If it were his child, mother, father, wife, sister, or brother who was the dead body riddled with bullet holes, would he feel the same way? He doesn't know the person, so it doesn't matter? That's kind of a terrifying way for a doctor to think about human life.
I am so pleased that gun sense opponents are finally revealing the ultimate truth: that they just simply don't care about the people you and Sandy Hook and Umpqua bury, that they care more about guns than tragic deaths.
I'm further delighted that he continues to associate the Republican party with bigotry (see Carson on Islam), unConstitutionality (see Carson on search and seizure), and hypocrisy when it comes to the value of human life (see any of them on choice versus guns).
Right?! This is just what many Americans have already thought. Maybe not in so many words, but the automatic defense to protect "gun rights" after a mass shooting sends the same message.
“I really think he could create a much more peaceful world, just by sitting down with diplomacy and talking to people.”

If I could create this, I don’t know, super awesome candidate, that was Ben and Trump put together, because if Ben Carson could use some of Trump’s fire with his diplomacy in which he talks with, that would be a—it would be almost an open-shut case,” Aaron said.
