What is up with all these teachers using exclusion and denial as discipline tools? This is such bullshit. Do they do public shaming in the playground too?
I'm picturing a charming play area surrounding some stocks and a whipping post. Just what America's youth needs!
Murder. We don't make dessert conditional to eating dinner in our house, and in a birthday cupcake situation it's even more unacceptable IMO. Fuck them all.
I um have rage easily these days I think. But still. Set them on fire I say.
If she lets your daughter not have to eat lunch and still get a cupcake don't you think everytime there is a birthday party with treats no one will eat lunch?
That is a tough precedent to set. Then we will have posts here how no one wants birthday parties allowed at school because then their kid won't eat lunch on those days.
I am not a teacher but I feel bad they have to make these decisions based off of one kid who won't eat lunch. If no one eats broccoli spaghetti but Ethan than I guess there are a lot of cupcakes left over.
I don't know the answer but I can only assume the teacher did the best she/he could in the situation. Sometimes we don't have to be thrilled by every decision they make but at least give a little leeway that they are trying to do the right thing and be consistent. Sometimes our kid has to miss out on something small so as not to create a problem where there doesn't need to be one.
What? No. I was a teacher and I saw kids eat a lot of questionable foods (the child with only multiple bags of chips in his lunchbox comes to mind) but I never said a word. That's the parents' decision, not mine. If someone brought birthday cupcakes, everyone gets a treat. We served at the end of lunch and everyone ate their food that much faster to get one. I don't recall anyone skipping a meal, but then, I never saw broccoli spaghetti either.
And as a parent, if a couple times a month my kid has a cupcake for lunch, I'm okay with it.

David is in 1st grade and the class next to them at lunch today got donuts (brought by a parent) and they sang happy birthday. Of course, my kid cried because he didn't understand and thought donuts were for everyone, lol. Can you imagine if everyone got a cupcake but him? OMG
Also....my kid is little bitty. Like, she turns 4 in two weeks, and for pictures yesterday wore an 18mo skirt and a 24mo shirt, itty bitty. She doesn't eat as much as some of her 99th percentile classmates. I'm used to her eating habits. And I monitor them. Sometimes she eats a gigantic breakfast and a small lunch. Or sometimes she eats a small breakfast, a small lunch and a small dinner because she just isn't that hungry. And that is still ok.
I'm working hard to make sure my kid doesn't grow up with issues with food. I'd hate for her to get conflicting messages at school.

I'm so mean! I was like "really, David? You got popsicles last week at lunch because it was Zach's birthday. Move on, son...." Haha. But I get why he was sad. I do! Sweets are what he lives for! It's like everyone in the room getting wine but me! LLLLOL
I'd legit be pretty pissed if it was most kids in his class but him/a few. I do lunch duty at David's school every day and some of the kids just aren't super hungry. And it's the same kids every time. IDK, I think they just don't eat much. And yes, some of them are just smaller children. I do encourage them to eat some of their sandwich/milk before their fruit snacks/desserts but that's it!
