*video monitor -- The technology has, unsurprisingly, come a long way since I last bought one 8 years ago
*stroller -- She registered for a City Mini (good choice?), but I feel like they'll want something smaller and lighter for travel, etc. What's the preferred lightweight umbrella stroller these days? And does she just want a snap n go to use with the car seat? Some other option? I keep having to pull her away from the travel systems...
*carrier -- I used ring slings and an Ergo. Is an Ergo still the best bet if choosing from the offerings at BRU and Target? She is not super knowledgable about or into baby stuff and is unlikely to go all Tula in the Wild. She wanted to register some Chicco carrier because she thought it looked cool, but I wouldn't let her
*infant carseat
And any other suggestions for registry must haves you think I would be unlikely to know about if my youngest baby is 2.5? She has a RnP and the OXO wipes container on her registry.
I'm not great on the other stuff, but most people I know got a Chicco KeyFit or Britax B-Safe infant seat.
I would probably get something like a Baby K'tan for carrying a newborn. That being said, I got the wrong size K'tan and never used mine.
We didn't get an umbrella stroller until M was 12 mo. We mostly used the Snap N Go for the first six months, then a combo of that and the jogging stroller until I stopped carrying around the infant seat. This may not be the most cost-efficient approach (three different strollers), but I've always been really happy with our stroller selection.

Thanks! I was thinking Chicco KeyFit, but wasn't sure. DS1 was born when the Graco Snugride was king, so I just bought a new one of those when the first one expired.
I wondered about a k'tan. She has huge breasts, and DH's sister with similarly huge breasts never found wraps or slings to be comfortable. Is this an issue? I am a flatly with no experience in this area
We did the snap n go, jogger, and lightweight stroller approach, too. I told her I think that is what she needs. Will any snap n go work with a Chicco KeyFit (wondering if I can just give her my old one)? And what brand of lightweight stroller is popular now? I had a MacLaren Quest that I loved, but I never here them mentioned anymore.
Video monitor - foscam or Motorola seem to be the most popular. The ability to add on extra cameras was key for us with a nursery, playroom, and wanting multiple kids Stroller - snap n go is nice, umbrella strollers I'd recommend folding. I like the G Luxe best in store but we are being given a Vue. Carrier - BBB had the Lillebaby airflow which may be a good option because it can be used for newborns without an insert. Car seat - most people seem to get the Bsafe or Keyfit. She could do the B agile + B safe since it's super similar to the City Mini and doesn't have adapters so more travel system like:
Video Monitor: Personal preference, really, but she needs to decide if she wants a wifi monitor to use with her phone/ipad or a regular video monitor with a separate viewing unit. I personally strongly prefer a separate viewing unit for several reasons. The Motorola is the best, though pricey. Differences amongst the motorola options include screen size, ability to add extra cameras, and ability to pan the room. What she wants just depends on her needs.
Stroller: I use a City Micro as my umbrella because I prefer it to an umbrella stroller. Her City Mini should be fine. She can pick up an umbrella stroller down the line if she decides she wants one. We have flown and road tripped with the City Micro, no issues. Same size as the Mini.
Carrier: If she wants ones that are available in-store at BRU, I'd go with an Ergo and a Moby.
Infant Carseat: Chicco Keyfit
Other things: My sis got 2 SuperSeats (twins!), and they seem really cool. I've heard good things about them. Fun for when they can sit up with support and have toys/tray attached. Don't forget a playmat. The new Kick n Play Piano mat actually folds up (so jealous!).
I love my Chicco Keyfit car seat, and as a CPST, LOVE how easy it is to install. E takes many of his daytime naps in it so he seems to like it too.
We have one stroller, a Chicco Liteway Plus. It's a bit heavier than an umbrella stroller, but not much, and it accepts the car seat easily. Major con is that the basket is small, while the Chicco Keyfit Caddy (their version of a snap n go) has a ginormous basket.
We use the Infant Optics DXR-8 video monitor. It's okay. Honestly, I did a lot of research on these, and none really stood out to me. We finally decided on it because a friend had the same one.
If yall go with the K'tan as a baby carrier, size down! I registered for the size according to the chart, and it's too big so I never used it beyond a week. I like my Lillebaby for a SSC, but the Ergo is also good and easily found at Target and BRU.
video monitor -- We got the Summer Infant Wifi. I wanted to be able to get video in my iPhone. stroller -- The City Mini seems to be very popular. We got the Uppababy Cruz and love it so far. carrier -- I'm using the Solly Baby wrap for now, I love it. infant carseat -- We got the Nuna Pipa and it's working great.
We had a city mini and loved it. And it was the only stroller we ever owned. We found it light enough to take w/ us anywhere. Its bulkier than an umbrella, no doubt, but not so much that we felt we needed another stroller.
Also the city mini isn't a jogging stroller, just FYI. It's made by baby jogger but not built for running, go figure.
They don't actually jog, so I think it will be fine. They want it for walks around their neighborhood, trips to the zoo or mall, etc. I have a Bob that I am happy to loan them if they ever need something more all-terrain, and I will give them my Bob in another year or so when DS3 is beyond stroller age.
I really love our City Elite (like a Bob but Baby Jogger brand). I've only run with it a few times, but it's great for walks in our neighborhood because the sidewalks are very uneven. It's also nice to be able to easily push it in the grass/gravel in parks. All my friends with jogging-type strollers love them, and the ones who don't have them are jealous. LOL
starburst and @vicmo -- I already gave her four Miracle Blankets (one of my most indispensable baby items), a few BundleMes, a few Halo Sleepsacks in various sizes, and a Merlin Magic Sleepsuit. And offered her my Ergo and my ring sling. I am the best SIL ever, no?

I have big boobs and use wraps and slings without issue. I definitely think a stretchy carrier is best for newborns - either a Moby or a K'tan. Most people have to size down a size in the K'tan. We got a Moby because DW and I are two different sizes so we could share it.
I think the Chicco KeyFit and KeyFit Caddy is a great combo. But I do think the BabyTrend Snap n Go fits the KeyFit too, if you just want to give her yours.
We bought an umbrella stroller a few weeks ago and I read a bunch of old threads. The board consensus is pretty much the Uppababy G-Luxe if you want to spend, and the Summer Infant 3D Lite for a more budget option. We got the 3D Lite, but the G-Luxe is very tempting.

Kind of random but I was just looking at my boon lawn today and thinking how much mileage I've gotten out of that thing! I'd definately put it on the list.

It's on there! I didn't have one, but she needed a drying rack, and it looked the coolest I feel like we did pretty good!
I agree with PPs about the Chicco Keyfit. I recommend it to everyone.
I also love our Ergo 360, though I am admittedly not a baby-wearing guru. I used a moby wrap when she was really little and liked that, too, though I never tried a ring sling.
I love our City Select, but for where we live, the big tires are a necessity. I love the size of the basket and the various seat positions, but it is pricey. The only other one we looked at was the Uppa baby vista, so I'm not much help there.
We had one monitor crap out on us (wish I could remember which one) and got a replacement bc we'd purchased it through our BRU registry. The one we have now (for the past year, I think) is a BRU exclusive through Summer Infant, and I absolutely love it.
I liked my Summer infant monitor WAY better than my new Motorola one. If they plan on having more than one kid, just buy one with two cameras now. I wish I had.
If I could suggest a baby carrier to anyone it would be a Beco Gemini. It was great from day one (no insert needed). I love my Tula but I wouldn't have loved it right away.
I have an old UBV model. I love it as a stroller, use it daily. I hate it as a double stroller and use the rumble seat almost never, I wear one baby and use the stroller for the other. I do know the newer model might be better for the double option. I never used the bassinet because we just used the snap in car seat.
We have a cheapie umbrella and never use it because the arms are too short.
I've got a k'tan and I'm a 36I or something ridiculous now that I'm BFing and I love it and so does my kid. They do run big. I have a small and I'm currently wearing a size 12 ON Jean and M/L tops.
We also have a Mai tai and that's ok. Baby doesn't like it as much, not as snug, but it's not uncomfortable for me or anything
I'm in the market for a video monitor so interested to see the responses on that. We have a hand me down summer infant monitor and it works rarely for like 10 min and then it says 'out of range'. Our house is not that big.
We had a summer infant monitor but it died before I had DD2. So that was disappointing. We moved to Foscams for the price point and love them.
I got a City Mini and a BOB before DD1 was born and haven't bought another stroller. I really love the City Mini (minus the basket). I keep it in the car and keep the BOB in the garage for walks or we'll bring it to fairs and other outdoor stuff.
I used an Ergo and Ktan, really liked both.
We had a Chicco Keyfit that we used for both girls. I didn't get a snap n go, but had adaptors for both strollers. I figured those were easier to store.
I loved having a RNP and a swing. And both a My Brest Friend and a boppy.

Video monitor - I registered for the Motorola but no one bought it. We ended up going for with a foscam and audio monitor.
Stroller - city mini was a runner up choice for us, so solid choice. That said, I love my ub Cruz. I also have a handmedown snap and go that I kinda hate, but keep in the car (I live in an urban area so like having two strollers). I also bought the cradle to use my keyfit with the Cruz. I chose the Cruz over the vista because I didn't need the bassinet ($30 infant insert works just fine) and the vista is almost too big.
Carrier - got the ergo, but it's been way too hot to use. I liked the moby better before it got hot.
Infant car seat - the keyfit was the only one that fit in my car. I was tempted to try the cybex anton, but couldn't justify the extra money on something that is short lived.
Definitely Halo sleep sacks. Register for 3-4 in each newborn and small size. If you want the cotton ones, get the solid colors not prints or muslin because the solid ones work the best. Fleece is fine in any color/pattern.
Is she planning to pump some? If so, make sure she registers for at least a dozen collection bottles that fit whatever pump she is getting and the Target milk bags are the best. And a Simple Wishes hands free bra.
I like the Honest brand nipple balm best. For pumping or nursing. I also like the Motherhood Maternity sleep/stretchy nursing bras. My Brest Friend is better for nursing too.
Mam brand pacifiers. All 3 sizes, newborn, 0-6 and 6+. But just one pack of each so you can make sure the baby likes them. The glow-in-the dark kind are awesome.
