I have worked many low wage jobs and overtime was always forbidden. An extreme example was one pay period I got one minute of overtime. SEVEN different managers came to me to warn me about how the company could not afford overtime. This was patently untrue based not only on economics but based on the fact seven people quit that pay period.

I REALLY want someone to go in on this issue in the GOP debates.
OK, you oppose mandated family leave. What is your solution for the mother of 2 who does not get any or enough paid time off to take the full maternity leave she needs to recover from giving birth to her second child? What do you say to her?
I want to know what they would say to her. That she, as the primary caregiver of two small children, is supposed to work an extra 10 hours per week for the entirety of her pregnancy so that she can bank that "flex time" to take time off after a birth?
I feel very ANSWER THE QUESTION, CLAIRE! about this.
And this shit is why I have no idea why my mother claims she is a staunch Republican and always has been. She's used welfare when she needed surgery, Medicaid paid for the surgery, she worked minimum/low-paying jobs most of her life, can't live off the Social Security she's got (and she's using my dad's imputed income, not her own, because he made more and she was "entitled" because she was married to him for about ten years back in the '60s and '70s), she's not religious, totally broke and living off her SocSec checks...
Hypocrites, the lot of them. "As long as it benefits me but not my neighbor. Because we know "they" are all cheating the system." (read the racist "they" between the lines, tyvm.)
What the eff are people thinking that vote against programs that would benefit them the most?

DS is almost 17 months old and my sick leave balance is still negative from when I took advanced sick after he was born. I did not even take the full amount of advanced leave because I did have some sick leave saved up and I had a vaginal delivery so my medical leave was only six weeks.
I think it is appalling that we have no paid maternity leave in this country.
I thought about this a lot today and I am annoyed because FMLA would pay me for 7 weeks and then 5 would be unpaid. 6 weeks is expected recovery time for a vaginal birth and 8 for a c-section, right?
So basically, waddle your way in here as soon or sooner than humanly possible or no pay!
Honestly though I'm lucky. That's a good policy compared to what most get. And my job is incredibly good with work/life balance and I can work from home whenever I want. But not everyone is that lucky. And that's terrible.

Fuck him. Stupid assholes waxing poetic about family values who give zero shits about women recovering from childbirth and bonding. Ughhhhhh. I am way too annoyed right now.
