I knew a Spurgeon growing up. I never knew it's meaning, but know his parents were not the type to give their kid a made up name, so now that I know what it means, I can see why they picked it. That said, it's a mouthful with their last name.
Well. That's spectacularly awful. Apparently it's a last name:
Charles Haddon (CH) Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) was a British Particular Baptist preacher. Spurgeon remains highly influential among Christians of various denominations... (From Wiki)
Haddon would have been a better choice if they insisted on being unique.
And you know a kid with the nickname Spurgeon the Virgin will either have sex on the back of a church bus at 14 or lose his virginity at the age of 42. They have doomed him for one or the other.

Because kids would definitely not call little Haddon "Hardon"...
This doesn't belong here but I am going to post it anyway.
In Greek, watermelon is called "karpouzi." Well, my grandma did not know what it was in English and apparently she decided it was karp. She asked my neighbor if he wanted some karp/carp and he's like, "no thanks, I don't like fish."
Where's the part where you explain how the name Spurgeon comes from the word karpouzi? "Give me a word, any word..."
