I'm out of books!
I like sci fi, post apocalyptic, and horror themes. Complex mysteries. Not a fan of romance being at the forefront of the plot (background stuff is fine).
I've read pretty much everything by Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Jack McDevitt. I liked the Divergent and Hunger Games series and enjoyed the first Maze Runner book.
I can't handle murdered kids (eta for clarity, little kids) .
Your enjoyment of the Hunger Game seems inconsistent with your last statement, which might lead to some different rec's.
I just posted in the 11/14 thread that I'm loving Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower. One child has died; I assume more probably will due to the nature of the genre. And the description on the back of the book.
Night Film - spooky, confusing mystery; way too many red herrings and annoying italics, but still enjoyable
Station Eleven - traveling troubadours in a post pandemic flu world, with a dash of 6-degrees of Kevin Bacon
Red Rising Trilogy - similar to Hunger Games (has dead teenagers, they kill each other like in HG) - the first book is insanely predictable and will feel like you've read it before if you've read any dystopian fiction; second book is better and feels more unique; third book comes out sometime early 2016.

Have you read Angelfall by Susan Ee? It's the first in a trilogy (all three of which have been released). It's young adult post apocalyptic. There is a romance, but it's not the focus of the books. I really enjoyed all three of them.

Well the relationships are more a big deal in the 3rd book, but it's really just background story in the first couple. That's fine. I guess I'm saying don't suggest the harlequin romance vampire books my MIL leant me once

Thank you! I had never heard of this, and the synopses look fantastic. Plus it's available free on Kindle Unlimited.

I meant the murdered kids part.
Oh right, that. I guess it's innocent babies/toddlers that are the problem for me. Probably because I have a baby and toddler. Once they're teens I'll probably be equally horrified by the hunger games.
You'd probably like The Lunar Chronicles, starting with Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It's YA, sort of sci-fi/futuristic/fantasy. I've read the first two and like them a lot (well, I did audio books - they're good in audio).
