What's on your mind today?
I'm nervous about getting everything ready to meet Boyfriend's family. We have so much to do this weekend and I have no idea how we will get it all done. But today is my last day in the office until November 30.
We learned yesterday that DH is in the midst of what will eventually be a layoff. In the summer of 2017. It's possible that decision could be reversed at this time next year, but unlikely.
So, now we get to figure out what life will be like after that. I need to figure out when/how to let my company know, too (there might be an opportunity for me to go full-time if I can move back to in-office work, but with this sort of timeline, it feels a bit premature to push for it right now).
DH _could_ choose to leave his employer sooner than 2017, I think. But, there should be one of two carrots for him if he sticks it out that long, either of which is substantial enough we'd need some serious incentive for him to not stick around to get it. (he should qualify for either a lump sum payment or an early retirement, as far as we can tell)
(yeah, maybe not so fun, but it is on my mind today...)
We're finally pulling the trigger on life insurance today. I got some quotes from SelectQuote back in July, and I finally emailed the guy back to tell him which ones I want. I hope it'll be an easy process. And I hope they can still honor those quotes!
We opted for 20-year, $750k policies for each of us. I'm going to ask whether it's more MM to just extend it to 30 years right now, or if we should just revisit in 2035 when we are 52 years old. I'm assuming it's best to just extend it to 30 years right now (assuming it's an option), correct?

I'm just being lazy today again. I started a second knitting project to teach myself to purl. And I have a 3rd knitting project that I need to buy yarn for, its going to be a big blanket as a gift to someone and its going to take a lot of time and effort.
I need to clean though and get some other stuff set up for melmel48 to come visit next week. I am thinking of going food shopping today for next week so I don't have to deal with crazy crowds either.

In more pleasant news, I started my Christmas shopping today. Apparently there are items listed on the US Amazon site that you can't get via the Canadian Amazon site.

I took the morning off to burn some vacation time. Instead of watching terrible television while drinking coffee, I took miso to the vet and found out she has fleas. So deep cleaning the house it is!

Yay, knitting!!!
She is supposed to be knitting me something but her dog keeps helping, lol.

I'm away for the weekend and so far the most stressful thing has been deciding which cupcakes to get at the cupcake store.
Of course, now I have a cough. That makes me mad because I have a race on Sunday and I want to do good. Oh well! It's just a low key 5k. Nothing too crazy.
I'm very irritated with my DH. It seems he only looks at the bills/budget/savings when he wants something. Today he decides we need to upgrade our phones and goes to AT&T to find out what our new bill would be. It is only $15 extra a month (and our phones are being super shitty at the moment), but I told him I didn't want to do it until we pay off our credit card (not a huge balance, but enough to annoy me) and get through the holiday season. Now his suggestion is to use savings (which we are behind on) to pay it off. "It'd be better to pay it off now instead of paying interest." The card will be paid off next month and the interest is $20. No.
A company I research sent out an email blast this afternoon announcing a member of senior management is leaving the company. I emailed the guy to say "I've enjoyed working with you, good luck in your next endeavor" and instantly received an email back telling me his new role has him in Boston frequently, including next week, and would I like to get a drink? I forward it to my boss and was like " OMG, is John Smith hitting on me?!" And he wrote back "Um no, John Smith is married to a man." Burn! Ha.
Am I really the only one who thinks that the people on Undisclosed are the very definition of insufferable? I listened for an hour and a half on my way home from work and kept thinking that these are people who haven't smiled once in their lives.
I am now watching a feature on Fox 5 News for their "5 Boroughs Week." Today they are talking about Brooklyn. The newscaster just asked the guy she's interviewing in the studio "Do you think it's getting gentrified a little bit?" ^o)

I would've thought the same thing. And you should totally get that drink with him, by the way. If I know you I suspect you're coming up with ways to back out but you should network and clearly he respects you!
Haha you know me too well! I am definitely going to follow through. I'm pretty flattered actually, especially since I now know its purely in a professional capacity!
H and I had to go get flu shots and they were as usual very confused by our different last names. Then the tech flirted with my husband while I was paying for our dog's crazy pills. "Oh, of course! You're always in uniform when you pick these up! [Smiley face at him]." It was more her tone and stuff, but she was definitely flirting. I guess it's okay to flirt with people in front of their wives when their wives are awful and don't change their names. He also got hit on at our wedding after party.
I'm watching Paper Towns from the Redbox. In the middle of the day. #Nojob Lol.
Well clearly you're not very committed if you didn't change your name. Duh. It's totally acceptable to hit on him! /sarcasm
I didn't change my name either. I'm often astonished by how difficult this is for some people to comprehend.
Our (Midwest) town has declared a snow emergency until tomorrow evening.
Apparently that gives them the power to tow any vehicle parked on the street.
*blink*
We _were_ going to host a gathering tomorrow afternoon. Not sure that can happen anymore - there's nowhere for people to park...
I'm impressed your town will actually make an effort to move cars to plow. The town I lived in close to you just plowed around them and usually 2-3 days later.
We're driving through the storm right now. It's nasty. Figures we wait until the weekend it storms to come for a game.
I got the guest bedroom all fresh and clean for my mom to come tomorrow. We are going to Pinot's Palette (painting/drinking event) with my sister tomorrow night and I am super excited!

Eep! Stay safe out there. The roads here are starting to seriously deteriorate (we went out for supper). And yet, there are still some stupid folks going over the speed limit, just asking to end up in a ditch...
I'm not sure how serious the town is about towing, but I'd hate for a guest to have their vehicle towed because we disregarded the warning...
What is Arnica? I have pain from plantar faciitis. I have gotten my limit of cortisone shots and I wonder if this would work?
Arnica is a homeopathic medicine that is primarily used to help in the healing of inflammation - bruises, sprains etc.
You can get it in gel or cream form. I don't know if you can get the tincture (liquid) form here (my mom picks it up when she travels) but I think you might be able to.
The liquid is what you need if you want to do a foot bath. You don't need very much. I put about 10 drops in half an inch of water but the cream or gel may be more accessible. I'm double dipping and using the gel with socks at night.
My Dr has also recommended this for information for me.

In case you were worried, we made it in safe. The 4 hour drive took 6 but faster than the ditch. I never understand the people that go flying by on the freeway. We took the less traffic route to minimize the idiots.
