Alright, I'm packing my bag - heading to Australia tomorrow by way of Hong Kong - just long enough to get a half marathon in, of course then off to Sydney where I will do another one. I'm shitting myself because I am not used to running in warm weather. Or humidity. Hold me. I will run over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and past the Opera House and get some photos for you all.
Please say nothing on Facebook - my mum and dad don't know I am coming out yet, it's a surprise for them.
OMG you guys! Leaving Hong Kong soon, but checking in to report half marathon in Honkers is DONE! (Weekly half marathon number 24 in the bag!)
Gotta say, it was hot. I got to bed about 2am after some drinks and karaoke (don't judge, but apparently the only thing they had was a wide selection of Avril Lavigne) and I slept poorly. But still, I knew it was going to be a HOT day. So I got up at 6:30am and took the train from Kowloon where I am staying to Hong Kong Island. And I started running. I knew where I was going but (and this is important) not the elevation I was about to face or the availability of hydration.
Suffice to say it was very hilly and there was literally nowhere to get water. And yet, I kept running. Uphill. As luck would have it, there was a petrol/gas station at the 6 mile mark. So I ran to 6.55 miles (half way) and turned back. Running back downhill was almost worse (according to my knees) but at least I could stop for water. Which I obviously did. I drank like it was the first drop of water I'd had in months. I didn't feel great, but continued on my way completing in my slowest time for a while of 1:51. I didn't care, . It was a difficult slog.
And then I came back to the hotel, had a massive breakfast and outstayed my welcome in the hotel spa/pool.
I am so excited for your surprise! That is so fun! And of course the amazing traveling and more races to read about--you are so cool.
Sorry the race did not go as planned, but damn the man you are still so speedy and amazing.
Not a race this occasion - just a weekly halfie. It will hopefully have prepared me for running one in Sydney (again, no race, just a self-planned route). It's hot here, loving the warmth on my skin and looking forward to surprising my parents this week!
