Alright so with my new job I'll be taking a bus to/from a parking lot so I need a work bag. I also really need a new lunch box too, mine has been seen better days. So I need help shopping because I just don't know where to look for stuff.
I'd like to keep the lunch box/bag under $30-40 and the work bag under $100 or so. I'm planning on asking for both for Christmas.
I need the lunch box/bag to be able to fit a my breakfast and lunch tupperware containers, silverware, and my snacks. I have a very roomy one now but its stained and gross.
For my workbag, I'd like a laptop pocket for those handful of times I'll bring my laptop home. I also want to be able to fit my lunch box, a pair of flats, water bottle, and wallet and such in it. I'd like it to zip close since I'll be riding on a bus.
I use a Thirty-One lunch bag that my mom gave me last Christmas. (Isn't this an MLM thing?) I may buy MH an LL Bean lunch bag for Christmas (either this one or this one), since he only recently started packing a work lunch and right now he uses a plastic shopping bag or one of my grocery shopping totes.
I bought this Baggallini purse earlier this year and it's OK, although I'm still on the lookout for the Perfect Work Bag. You could probably fit a lunch box plus those other things in there. When I worked in NYC and took the bus and train to get there, I liked having a cross-body bag to keep my hands free.
My timbuk2 laptop bag/messenger meets those requirements. The downside is that it's a bit casual and kind of makes me feel like a 30-something hipster dude with a bear who should be living in Seattle, which I think is Timbuk2's target demographic. Lasts forever, though, and, on sale, can be had for about $90.
I have the Timbuk2 messenger bag. It can be a bit tricky to get my lunch bag (Zara one from Costco) in it if I put too much plastic ware in it with my giant water bottle and wallet. It always closes, is awkwardly bulky. It velcros down and then clips for the bug pocket. The back pocket zips. B
I work in a lab- so fashion isn't a top selling point.
I used to carry something like this. I tried to avoid carrying silverware, and left a set at work in my desk to use so I'd have one less thing to schlep around (and I could buy cheap ones).
I take breakfast and lunch to work and have to fit a lot, too, on the rare occasion I go to the office. I use an inexpensive softsided 6 pack cooler like this one. www.igloo-store.com/detail/IGL+00059754

FYI, that 2nd one is pretty small. I'm only able to fit my 1st grader's flat ice thing and his food container in there - which has a compartment for a sandwich, a small square (doesn't fit much... I use it for his crackers), and a larger square (can fit a small apple cut up). I could never fit DH's lunch in there.
Thanks for letting me know! I use s bunch of Tupperware for our lunches (I hate single-use packaging) so the bag needs to be big. Maybe I'll look in Costco?
I have this bag (http://www.packit.com/freezable-lunch-bag-2019.html) for lunch. I find it to be a little small when I use my reusable containers, but the company makes several larger ones. I love it because I can keep my food cool until lunch without worrying about leaving it in the fridge.

I actually use a 31 lunch tote too! It's a great size and fits a lot of Tupperware. I bring both breakfast and lunch to work and it's more than big enough. It's the Lunch Break Thermal.
My work bag is the Fashion Editor bag from 31. It's huge and has the laptop pouch you were asking for. I haul a ton of stuff in it. I can take pics if you want.
