My neighbors had a unneutered male bully mix. It got out all the time & was pretty aggressive toward men. Last week the dog warden & one patol car were out here to catch it & talk to the owners.
This afternoon the warden & two patrol cars were out at the house. I saw the dog running around. Then about 20 min later I heard a gunshot and people screaming. 2 minutes later 6 more patrol cars & an ambulance pull up.
Just spoke with another neighbor who is a police dispatcher in town. The call was because the dog tried to attack a cyclist, then once they had it cornered it attacked an officer, who shot it in self defense. The dog is dead.
I'm so shaken. I didn't like that dog because it was aggressive & always out on the street, but Jesus.
100% the owners fault. Poor dog. Poor cyclist. Poor officer.
It totally is. Everyone on the block has told them to get a fence if they're going to just leave the dog outside (they'd just tie him up with an extendable leash like rope). And to train it, they got it as a puppy & never did any training. It's horrible. I'd spoken with NJ animal control more than once about it.
Thankfully the cyclist & officer are okay. Neighbor said the officer is really shaken (obviously). But he had no choice.
