PSA: beware of "was" prices at Nordstrom Rack

Or at least, I just bought 2 pairs of these leggings (for $19 -- a steal compared to the $35ish or so I've paid for my other pairs!) and the tags list the retail as $76.  Um, no.

Didn't we discuss a while ago that the prices at marshalls et al are made up? Like the Calvin Klein and stuff was never even made for Calvin Klein but the license is bought by Ross or wherever.i thought it was interesting.

A lot of outlets are like that nowadays.  What's sold there is made expressly for the outlet and was never sold at the higher place on the tag.  Often those higher prices are "Compare to" instead of "Was" or "Retail Price."  I believe that Nordstrom Rack has a lot of items that are made for the store.  Like, I suspect that the "14 and Union" brand at Nordstrom Rack is an outlet only brand (probably named after the NY Rack location?).  So not surprising that Marshalls and such would do the same.

The leggings that I just ordered were the same item that you'd find at a retail store (I have other pairs and they're identical) so they have a real actual retail price -- but in no world is that retail price $76.

I still love Nordstrom Rack. I got a pair of Ralph Lauren pants (retail $110 or so the tag claimed - lol) for $5 that were absolutely adorable and perfect for the beach vacations I bought them for. (And that's why the lawsuits were tossed.)

Believe me, compared to the prices I'm used to paying for the same stuff, I *do* save $8 billion every time I walk into Shop Rite.  

But it is crazy that, like, 80% of the store is on sale at any given time.  I'm used to like 8 items being on sale at any given time.  For price that are higher than Shop Rite's regular prices.  And while the Shop Rite by my work is kind of really a hole, it is a much nicer hole than Gristedes!
