I'm switching to a Hdhp at work starting January 1. Cheaper premium and lower oop max. I'm overwhelmed with the choices out there and the fees if the balance is below a certain $$. Any recommendations?
I may only have the Hdhp for 2016, then switch to dh's ppo insurance for 2017, so don't plan on keeping extra money in the account to roll over, just funding for my needs this year.
I have an HSA and I think the minimum only applies if I want to invest the funds. I had a ton of medical expenses (beyond what I could put in an HSA) this year, so I didn't invest anything. I can also adjust my contributions anytime as long as I stay below the allowable limit. Is that your concern?
You didn't ask this but you can max out your HSA and still use those funds in the future (for medical expenses incurred if you are on a PPO plan), just FYI.

The local CU that a few locals have suggested is $25 annually if balance goes below $2500. My oop max is $2400... Hence a fee. Plus when I open it, won't have much in it to start and will be draining the account for bills as the year goes along. My current bank charges $3.95/month if the balance is below $5k.
