I'm so irritated! I saw a recipe for mashed potatoes I wanted to try. It had a very specific way to add the butter and milk with a sciencey-sounding explanation that I totally bought. Now I can't find it anywhere! I think I saw it on FB; does this sound familiar to anyone?
Did you see Alton Brown's video on how to cut potatoes for mashed potatoes? He said that's more important, starch gelatinization and whatnot.
No, but I'll check it out! I googled around and read something about starch being key, but itnwasnt clear what to do about it.
While I do not miss the dramatics that involve my family at Thanksgiving, I do miss fun holiday gatherings. H is working tomorrow so it's just me and my mom. I guess it's better than being alone which is what happened before.
I miss the way my family used to be and there isn't any going back to the way it was.

I'm sorry. I empathize a bit. My family kind of lost its mind a few years ago and it hasn't been the same either. (For some reason my aunts and grandmother thought my mom was going to kidnap her aunt and bring her back here. WTF?? So they staged an intervention at the airport.) It's never been the same. We used to have these fun, huge GTGs and after that episode? Nothing. My mom and brother would be fine doing nothing for any holiday which kind of blows.

It's technically Thursday here, but DH and I just got in from seeing a double feature: The Good Dinosaur and Spotlight. THD was super cute, but somehow more adult at times than other Pixar movies. A little short on story, but worth seeing. And Spotlight was ah-mazing. Very CEP. I highly recommend, plus it's getting a lot of Oscar buzz.
