I am not tired yet and I am stuck hanging out with my inlaws. They are good people...by its painful to chat with MIL. She pontificates rather than has conversations. And whenever she asks me a question she always says "I know" after my response.
I am happy with my food...we've created a tradition of steak frites with some sides I make every year. As well as a bourbon pumpkin cheesecake. My kid's basically snubbed all of it though, but so it goes.
DH and I took Mom out for Thanksgiving dinner. If you're ever in Gig Harbor, WA, run don't walk to Brix25. Dinner was amazing. I want to move next door and have these people feed me every day.
The one glitchy part - when I made reservations I said a member of our party uses a walker and can't do steps. No problem, they said. Which is true, once you're in the restaurant. What they didn't mention (and I didn't think to ask) is that they have no parking lot. Picture us parked on a 2-lane road, in middle of the lane with our flashers on so Mom can (very slowly) get in and out of the car. Thank God there was no traffic to speak of.
Pros: I'm very contented to have finally arrived at the point where Carl's family and traditions and holidays feel like my own. There was a long time I thought I would spend every holiday with his family wishing I was with mine, and I'm glad it wasn't forever.
There's pie to be had, including pumpkin, so Carl and A will not revolt.
Cons: This is the first holiday we've been here since the fam had the big blow up with BIL (and niece was born who no one has met). There's been blow ups here and there in this family that have blown over, but I'm worried this one won't and I'm sad there's part of our family missing.
The pumpkin pie is store bought. I forgot to plan ahead for this, so I'm missing ingredients for a makeup pie this weekend at home.
I didn't get to eat very much and DH isn't home so I talked MIL into a TG redo next weekend! More turkey for me!
I think I may do the same. H's uncle was in the hospital until wed night, so he canceled his flight to join me. All of them were too tired and sick today to cook or even go out. Plus, we havent had them over since we bought our house
My gathering was awesome. Turkeys were great (that countertop roaster was amazing and too fast). Everyone came, brought awesome food, had a great time, no one seemed too uncomfortable hanging out at the boss's house. No alcohol because of work, but it was all good.
I may hate my company in general, but I really work directly with awesome people and I am thankful for getting to celebrate that.

I made 8 lbs of mashed potatoes for dinner and there is only a little cup sized dish left. Everyone went nuts for them this year and wiped them out!
No one brought rolls or biscuits so I had nothing to mop up all my gravy. There was sushi (wtf?!?) and way too much pie. We had 2 apple pies, 2 pecan pies, 1 giant costco pumpkin pie, a chocolate raspberry cream pie and a pumpkin pecan cheesecake.

Mine always says, "That's right", even though she typically has no clue.

My pub meals was lovely and the paired Brooklyn Brewery beers were awesome (half-pints, which was perfect). I couldn't finish desert, which was the most lush Red Velvet cake with lots of homemade chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Came home, had a cuddle with the dog and H and went to bed.
I learned yesterday that my SIL, who learned how to make sweet potato pie from her (black) granny, actually prefers pumpkin.
She made collards but we didn't have mac n cheese. I kept wanting to make a Crack about her black card but...I thought maybe my white ass shouldn't since she dealt with actial shit as a kid with not being "really" black since she's both mixed and light skinned.
Our turkey was behind schedule and a little dry. Mh made it and he was all down on himself. Poor pumpkin. Dark meat was good though.
My niece and nephew are hilarious and cute and really caring and snuggly with my kids.
My pie was fantastic. I had bread pudding for breakfast. Content wawa is content.
White people, you have been lied to. Sweet potato pie wins every.single.time. over pumpkin pie. Every single time.
I make cake on Thanksgiving. Cake, bitches. Because why? Because cake.
Now I want cake. Thanks for that. I also blame you for the cream cheese frosting and graham crackers. My pants don't fit, you know. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY!!
