I don't know if this is a complaint but it's worth mentioning. BIL's wife just signed her dad up for Tinder and is helping him with the first few matches. The whole table is egging him on. It's ... interesting.


ETA now MIL is trying to find dates for all the single olds who are here? Or something? Whatever it is I wasn't prepared for it.

FIL has decided he wants to deep fry a turkey on Saturday and watch college football. J thinks we all need to go over there. Mind you, Ohio State kicks off at noon and AJ goes down for nap around 1. When I pointed this out, he was all "well, we'll just do what we did today" meaning eat dinner #1 at 1pm and take AJ home for nap late. Yeah, except AJ was an overtired hot mess before we left dinner #1 and again before we left my parents this evening. Plus, J and FIL will be useless because football so I'll be left to chase AJ around the non childproofed house. NOPE. I'll take AJ over there until 1230 and then we are leaving, FIL can bring J home later.

On the upside, SMIL is out of town all weekend. And FIL made an offhand comment to J about thinking SMIL may be serving him with divorce papers soon...please let it be true. Please please please.

My h asked his parents to spend the night without really running it by me. A week ago, I told him it's not a great idea since I'm 8 months pg and too exhausted to host them. Also, we have contractors coming out tomorrow. He never talked to them and he was legit surprised when they showed up with a bag. Sure enough, they haven't lifted a finger since they've been here. I'm beat from cooking and cleaning and now hiding out in my room while he's vacuuming and cleaning up.

DD cried almost the whole time she was being held by MIL, so that gave me a good chuckle.

My aunt made no less than 8 comments about DD's flat head. Also told me how to stretch her legs so they wouldn't be bowed. My uncle talked to DH about black people infiltrating the city where they live.

My mom touched my belly multiple times even after I asked her not to (I'm 21 weeks pregnant). The last time she said she was just feeling the fabric of my dress. Right....

I didn't realize it was weird to have this for dinner. We eat Ravioli, meatballs, bracciole and sausage every year for Christmas.

Did anyone else's family expect the kids to just have one big meal for the day?

We had Thanksgiving around 1pmish. Granted, we sat around the table for a while and had dessert way after, but by 7pm, my kids were ready for dinner. Except that my ILs had both gone out and I couldn't find the t-day leftovers in their fridge (we are staying with them). Not much other food around.

I sent DS to bed after a dinner of bananas and teething crackers.

DD got to eat after my ILs came back home and told me the leftovers were in the basement refrigerator.

Oh, of course, the basement refrigerator! I didn't even know they had one. Their kitchen refrigerator is a perfectly normal size and did not have much food in it.

With Thanksgiving food But sides are quickly being eliminated as they are deemed unnecessary. MIL is standing in the kitchen going, "Does anyone really like cranberry sauce that much? Spaghetti and meatballs is the traditional Christmas dinner at my parents. Like I think there would be a revolt if we didn't have it. What can I say? We like our routines

I am a crappy houseguest, I've decided. I just have absolutely no clue how to communicate with people who are passive/aggressive and I am full of rage that DH doesn't communicate with his parents at all.

I cannot wait to go back home, although I am certain there will be a lot of fall-out from this visit.

It's not my family, but DH is cranky about his family. We've had very minimal contact with his parents since MIL's hissy fit of Mother's Day, 2015. He feels guilty we've kind of cut them out, and I think he feels bad we didn't go home this weekend. His sisters were over there today. (We still see/talk to them).

We are also avoiding my sister and Voldemort, so we stayed home altogether, and have friends arriving tonight. We've had some nice family time, but I know he's upset about his parents and won't talk about it.

Heh. I don't even know where to begin. My mother has been out of work for the last 4 months, but aside from looking for work, I don't know what she's been doing all day - we arrived yesterday and it was a shit show here. We are at my parent's house until tomorrow. I guess it's expecting too much that my mother's house would be clean. I'm not saying spotless you can eat off the floor clean, but at least sweep the floors and clean up after the 6 pets you have so the whole house doesn't smell like animal shit and piss. Especially when you're the one hosting dinner? Then there's all the clutter everywhere - it's like she doesn't care anymore. You ask if she needs help and she says no, but then makes passive aggressive comments about no one helping her. My one aunt and her H came over and I don't know what exactly happened but my mother got into a fight with them and long story short decided she 'wasn't hungry anymore' so stormed outside. I had to go out and beg her to come in and eat. Yea, then she got into a fight with my dad too. I don't know why I even expect it to be different this year because it's the same shit every year. I think next year for the first time ever, I'm not going to come for thanksgiving.

My FIL went on and on and on about how his family employed black people and how his parents felt that everyone should be blind for a year and then have their eyes opened to see what color their friends were. Then there was something in there about how they told his cousin that the KKK was 'just a bunch of people trick or treating' and then laughed when she was upset that she couldn't go with them. Yeah, he's special. Add on to that the multiple times he called MY MOM sexy and the inappropriate embellishments to his stories (saying that his wife was jumping up and down on the bed naked and referring to it as 'some new kinky sex thing' when she did nothing of the sort) and he's just my MOST FAVORITE holiday visitor ever.

My Dad went on a rant about how business owners should be able to discriminate against gay weddings without any fines etc.. And when I likened it to segregation etc my Mom says 'but black people can't choose the color of their skin' - because you can CHOOSE your sexuality?

I get that these people are in their 60's/70's but why are they so f'ing backwards and obstinate?
