So for the past few days we have been hearing a weird noise when DD sucks on her soother. Neither of us thought anything of it. Her soother is attached to a toy monkey.
DH just figured it out. SHE HAD CHEWED THROUGH THE TOP OF THE SOOTHER. It wasn't completely off but DH just ripped it off (the tip she had essentially chewed through) and told her that the soother part is gone.
Run out and buy another one! We have like 100 in our house in case of emergencies.
Or do you want to cut the cord now she is burning through them?
Once they bite through them it usually means it is time to cut the cord. She will just bite through another one and from what I have been told it is a pretty significant choking risk.
I can't remember how old your DD is but our DD did this around 2 1/2 and we bought another and she kept chewing through then. She got cut off cold turkey and nights weren't actually that bad! Good luck!

19 months. Part of me knows it is for the best, had to happen eventually.

I'm sorry. I chewed through my soother fairly young to prompt getting rid of mine too. My daycare-running mom told the story to all the parents who were afraid to stop a soother or bottle. Apparently I was a beast (even more than usual) to put down for a few days but after that I got over it. Fingers crossed she doesn't get too mad about it!
Wasn't it hermione that dealt with this too? I could have a faulty memory though. I am sorry.
Yes. It was horrible. We had to take the animal away because she just kept bringing it to me and asking for "hep? Hep peeeees?" Heart breaking to have an 18 month old ask for help and not be able to.
It took about three days for her to get over it. I may have cried more than her.

Good luck tonight!
We just went through this a month ago at age 25 months. But P's been sleeping without his wubbanub at daycare so we knew he could do it. We told him "Wubby broke because she knew you were a big boy and didn't need her anymore, so she left to go get fixed then go to some babies who need her help now." It went surprisingly well. He had a weird sleepwalking thing that night, but has been fine ever since, other than occasionally saying "Wubby broken helping babies?". He also uses the Aden & Anais blankets as luvvy's, which helped too I'm sure (though he seems less attached to those now too, oddly).
This is how we came to taking the paci from J. The first time I thought it was a fluke. The next day I saw him actively chewing it when I went to get him from his nap. It sucked. But the awfulness only lasted a couple of days.

Oh man this is how DS1 lost his pacifier cold turkey. It was rough. If it makes you feel better, by night four he was back to normal. He never was a good sleeper but it wasn't worse than before he had the paci.
Surprisingly well. She cried a bit but then slept. She woke up twice MOTN but only cried for a second and slept again. If nap goes ok today I think we are in the clear.
