Good idea Jenny. I can't help a ton, but would do what I could to contribute.
I was thinking people could put gifts at a variety of price points on their Amazon lists so that people could have the option of doing a $5 (or whatever) gift or a $100 gift if they have the means/desire.
Perfect. I could help out for sure if various price points. You're good for thinking of this
My only question would be, how are the people who get assistance selected? They self-nominate themselves? I just wouldn't want anyone left out that needs it, but I know there also has been a history of trolls. However it's done, I think for the "selection" process it should involve only a small number of people to keep things as fair and drama-free as possible.

I was wondering if we could do something for Shanbrite's family. I know she had kids. I donated to the go fund me right after her passing but I was wondering the other day if her husband needed help with the holidays coming up.
I think we would naturally work this out, but I would like to see everyone's wish lists supported somewhat equally. Not $$ wise, but just making sure one list isn't bought out while the other sits untouched.
Again I think MLers would be good at self regulating so this is probably not even something that needs to be chewed on.

Yes, I think self-nomination and I was thinking I would be the only person they would PM. I don't feel comfortable discussing "worthiness" of requests with others if that makes sense. In terms of selection, the ideal would be to include everyone who asked for support. I would verify that they are a regular member of the community (maybe a minimum of a year posting here and 1000 posts?) but otherwise I think we'd just trust people to be honest.
Ok great!
Also, for simplicity sake, go fund me or similar site maybe Paypal to collect funds. Then, you and whoever else are organizers then buys what the recipients need and make sure it's evenly split amongst everyone.

Ok that's my 2 cents Thanks for facilitating!
I was thinking it would be easier to have people buy directly from an Amazon list--that way each person could pick a particular item and the shipping and such would be taken care of automatically (pixy0stix can verify that leaving the shipping of items up to me is not a great idea lol). You can keep Amazon registries private--I know we were able to send to Karma without knowing her name or address. People could enter name information as "MIL Family with Two Girls" or whatever.
Ahh ok got it. I just mentioned that because it would save the hassle of people having to look through 10 different lists for example to see who has been given what and what remains and keeping things even among everyone. But hopefully there wouldn't be any problems and it'd even itself out naturally.
Yeah, I think non descript wish list names would be best. Even as simple as "List 1." Who cares if it's a solo person or family of ten or whatever. What they want/need is already selected.
I also like the idea of saying $200 or $300 because then it will give "permission" for the people to ask for stuff. They wouldn't have to worry that they are asking for too much.

This was kind of what I was thinking, both in regards to ensuring everyone receives something and to eliminate any issues with people wanting to help but can't spend as much - jenny1980 could take the "pool" and purchase/send gifts as necessary.

This is WAY more work than doing an amazon wishlist and having it directly shipped, though. This time of year is busy enough, I think the wishlist is a good idea. It cuts out the middleman. I think ML is good at giving and will see a list isn't getting any attention.
