I'm trying to get creative about where to put a home office. My DH insists on having a desktop computer with a giant monitor and a big, comfy desk chair. Right now everything is in the guest bedroom, but we are TTC #2 so I think we'll need to find a new home for the computer. I also could use a filing cabinet. We have a living room, dining room and family room where it could go. None of those rooms really have extra space, but I could maybe squeeze in a small desk somewhere. There's no room in the kitchen or the master bedroom.
Just curious if anyone else has found a good spot for a home office outside of a spare bedroom. Thanks!

DH is a programmer so we have a huge desktop with a massive screen, and have never had a dedicated room for it so it's always had to find a spot in the living room. There's more space in our bedroom but he stays up later than me, usually on the computer, so I don't want it in there. It's not ideal but it works.
We have a separate room for the home office but I think the living room or family room (whichever has more space and privacy) is the best option in your case.

My office is a small sitting room attached to the master BR. I rarely use it (too hot in summer, too cold in winter) and do most of my paperwork propped up on pillows, in bed. Shameless me! Spouse's office is a tiny 3rd bedroom. Both are about the same size, which is very small. Mine has a southern exposure and huge windows so the light is excellent for drafting (but the temp extremes are brutal). Either one could be a walk-in closet or a nursery.

I used to use the guest room, but last year when Rs parents came for two weeks, we moved it downstairs to the family room. I actually like it better down here.

We don't use it for the computer anymore, but we used to have this setup -- I love how you can't see anything when it's closed up. Ignore all the junk on top and inside, it's become our dumping-ground:
We double up our kids in bedrooms (2 kids each bedroom) & use a psuedo bedroom (has a fireplace & builtins in the would be closet) as the office. In the past it's been in our bedroom and in a guestroom.
We have an actual office. When you come in the front door, the office is on the left and the living room is on the right. We have a center hall from the front door, you can go upstairs or down the hall to the kitchen. On the hall, between the office and the kitchen are also a 1/2 bath and a closet. We have all of our office equipment in the office - book cases, table, big monitors, router and we have stuff like staplers, paper cutter, copy paper etc. We have a printer/scanner/fax machine too. We don't actually sit and work in there all that often, we both have laptops so we can work anywhere, if it's nice I work outside.
Thanks for all the input. I'm thinking the living room is a good option because it doesn't get used all that much, anyway. DH would like the computer in the family room but that would take away from toy space. I'm going to try a few options and maybe take pics to get input from you lades
Ours is in an open loft upstairs. We have set up a desk, bookshelf, a small file cabinet with a printer on top. I have nothing on the wall. Needless to say it's another project that needs my attention.
Mine is in the 3rd bedroom. We turned that room into an office. It's a tiny box so it really only has a closet, desk, bookshelf and a chair with no more room to walk. This room is to tiny that the most that would fit in here would be a twin size bed against a wall and nothing else.
Do you have an extra space at the back of a family room?
Mine is the third bedroom. But if we had to use that bedroom, we have a VERY large/long dining room and could cut out a space there for my desk. Which is what we did in our old apartment when we had a huge dining room and the second bedroom was my H's office/guest room.
I think a lot of people build desks into the kitchen nowadays.
I WFH and set up my area in the living room. We never used it anyway, didn't have "formal" stuff in here. I kept the couch but pushed it under the window and have a desk, a printer station, etc. along one wall. It works well for me because I like being central to everything and the dogs have a perch to look out onto the world.

Ours is not exactly an office but it works great for us. We have a small corner desk with a desktop in our kitchen/dining area. Our printer is in a closet upstairs. Our keyboard/mouse are wireless so the space is nice and clean and clutter-free.

We converted our attached oversized two car garage into a studio for H and I. No one actually uses garages for parking here. I sew and H needs six giant monitors and water cooled crazy pc. To internet/play fallout? It works great for us.
Our office is the 4th bedroom of our home. We don't have a real need for a guest room. We could add a bed in here if we needed to as the only thing in here is the desk and my yoga mat really. I like it open and empty though.
My home office is in the breakfast room which is a 10 x 10' alcove between the kitchen and LR. I use a medium sized Ikea dining table as a desk. It was nice when DS was younger because I could monitor his computer use. When my niece lived here, she used to sometimes work remotely at it- the space is big enough for a couple monitors for her spreadsheets.
Mine used to be in a corner in our basement TV room but I decided one weekend to take over the basement guest room/dog crate room after realizing that no one had stayed in there in over a year. So now I have a dedicated craft and office space. Woo hoo!
DH has his office in the smallest of upstairs bedrooms.
