I get the kids an ornmanent every year related to what they're into.
It leads to a lot of Elmo tacky..haha..but Rubes is old enough to get it and she loves it.
I get H and I one if I run across one.
This year DD got a handmade one on etsy with a cowprint. DS got a skidloader. H and I got the Merry Christmas chalk one from Ballard.
Lol this is how my kid's ornaments are too. J's from two years ago is an Elmo one and this year his is piglet and pooh. K chose Donald duck and E chose Mickey. The girls' are stuffed ones too lol. But they loved them.
pre-kid: one that highlighted an event of the year post-kid: DS gets one that highlights the event of the year. this year is a polar express ornament or a bike ornament, i haven't decided yet.

I bought my son a Jake & the Neverland Pirates ornament at Target last night, so that's the 2015 addition to the tree. I also bought a little frame one for his school picture, so I think I will do that yearly at least.
My mom's friend gave me a Precious Moments porcelain ornament every year (with the date). I have 1980-1991 I think. She passed away around that time. This is the first year they haven't been on the tree. I know they're hokey to a lot of people but I really treasure them.
Not necessarily. We bought all the kids a baby's first Christmas ornament, and we sometimes buy them on trips.
But we usually end up with about a dozen new ornaments a year that we receive as gifts. My mom usually gets each kid at least one ornament expressing their interests or activities, all the adults get an ornament at their seat as a party favor for Christmas dinner, my aunt and uncle send all the kids a Hallmark Keepsake ornament each year, our church gives all the kids an ornament at Christmas Eve services, and DH's company gives him the Swaworkski crystal ornament.
No, but our moms do. My mom buys me a Lenox snowflake every year. My MIL buys me a Willow Tree Angel every year. We do have a baby's first Christmas ornament this year, thanks to my mom.

everyone gets a new one every year, we try and relate it to something that happened in the year but that can't always happen so I just pick something they like, ie this year DD3 got a Paw Patrol Marshall, but DD1 made her first communion this year so I got a personalized one for that, also it can be a dumb "thing"- dd2 got a bus because it's her first year riding the school bus
I buy DS an ornament every year based on his interests. Last year it was Thomas... this year I'm planning on getting him a personalized firetruck ornament.
We started doing that a couple years ago and I love it. We usually try and get one from each vacation, then our year ornament. We also let DD pick out one, too.
Yes. I buy a picture frame ornament every year and now that we have DD I'm buying a second one for her each year (may or may not be a picture frame). DH's mom saved an ornament for her kids from each year and it was so sweet to get a big box of ornaments when we got married.
We also sometimes buy an ornament while we're on vacation.
Yep, I have one from every year of my childhood growing up and am doing the same with my kids. They all have something to do with a major event of the year, a trip we took, a particular interest, etc.
DS is still too little this year but I think I will start the tradition of having him pick out one next yer.
When i was pregnant my sister made me one with DS's sonogram picture. Last year I made one with his picture as a 1st Christmas, this year I made one for 2015 with a current picture. I hope to continue that.
Yes, We have ornaments for our first christmas, first apartment together, baby's first christmas, and a photo ornament for Jack for all of his christmases.
My mom gives us Hallmark ornaments relevant to our lives each year. Sometimes I buy one or two if I see cute ones. The best one was when she went to buy a "Baby's First Christmas" on Dec. 26th and the cashier was like WTF. Well DD had shown up almost 2 months early and came home on Dec. 24th, so the 26th was the first day my mom could go get the ornament since it was officially her first Christmas. But it still has the stock baby's photo in it, I need to swap it out to put DD"s pic in!!!
No, but we have ornaments from most years that weve been together. We don't have an ornament yet for DS, and it's really bugging me-I need to get him one. I love love love pulling out the ornaments though and remembering when and why we got the 'special' ones!
I used to collect Waterford ornaments but stopped when DS was about 5-ish.
I have all the Hallmark Barbies, DS has all the Hallmark Lionels. We pick up ornaments from vacations and from milestones. I do 3 trees most years. I also have a hometown ornament from out local Business Association since we moved here.
I have photo ornaments made of each of the kids, and then one of them together. We started DS' first Christmas. They are my favorite ornaments- I love getting to relive how much they have grown as we decorate the tree!
We do. If we go on a special trip we try to buy an ornament from that location, or we try to base it on something meaningful from the year. This year our special ornament is a military themed picture frame ornament with a picture of DH's homecoming of the three of us. It was his 4th deployment, but the first that we had DD for so I hired a photographer. We also have a Minnie Mouse ornament that DD picked out.

H and I started collecting the Hallmark Noelville ornaments our first Christmas together. They're little gingerbread houses/people. We get the new every year.
And I get one for A. First Christmas, a personalized bell last year, a Minnie one she picked out this year.
My parents have collected an ornament a year for me and my sister since our first Christmases. We recieved them as wedding presents, lol! Now we do the same for DD. I love shopping for them.
We purchase an ornament for each destination we travel to. After the years there are alot of travel ornaments...a whole tree full. So we have a matchy/matchy tree and our travel/random ornaments tree.

Oh yes, my mo.started this when I was young. An ornament for the year and one for vacations or ravel or something special. 85% of the ornaments mean something on our tree and are not on.it just because they're pretty, I love it!
Yes. We will usually get one on vacation and then I will let DD pick out 2-3 ornaments every year. I write the year in the back with a sharpie as a reminder of what she was into each year.
