We're pretty breezy about tv time, but it's always PBS or Disney Junior, so educational, right?!
He watches in the morning before preschool, so roughly 1.5-3 hours, and while I make dinner until bedtime, another 1-2 hours. If we're home most of the day, add another 3 hours or so? He has preschool 3 hours a day and plenty of other activities and play dates, it's not like he only sits in front of the tv. Usually it's background noise while he's playing Legos.
It's very rare that we have adult shows on during the day. DH and I watch anywhere from 0-2 hours of tv a day.
DD is 5. I stopped worrying about screen time a long time ago. It helps her relax and she needs the downtime.
On school days she watches one show in the mornings (more if she wakes up early) and another one or two when she gets home. During the summer or winter break? Hahaha. It's a free for all and I don't even care. She's awake for 13-14 hours a day. There is only so much to do that doesn't involve TV.
We do not leave it on as background noise thought and the only TV she watches other than kid shows is sports with DH.
How much time is it on in the background at home? Never
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? We watch all adult tv after bedtime or during nap. A few times, a UT football game may have been on when she was awake. I would think maybe twice this season?
She also attends a Montessori school and we hope to keep her there long term. I say this just to tell you where we fall in regards to parenting style/technology. It's definitely not for everyone and I respect that.
My almost 3 year old wakes me up in the morning begging to watch Curious George. On a typical day, I bribe her to do something by having George as a reward. I would say she watches one 30 minute episode per day. I don't have the TV on otherwise.
When we do long car rides, she has a couple of Disney movies she will watch. We have also allowed Frosty a few nights this month. I want to watch Polar Express as a family but am not sure it would keep her attention the whole time. Maybe this weekend.

I don't really keep track. The TV is on most of the time, but usually on one of the music choice channels so I don't think that's the same.
We watch an episode of Sesame Street a couple of times a week, and a movie another day or two a week. I would say we watch something almost every day. And lately we have had lots of Christmas movies on, like all the time. We do lots of other stuff too, and even if a movie is on DD never just sits and watches something in its entirety so I don't feel like I'm frying her brain. #breezy
He watches an hour sat morning and an hour sun morning. Nothing during the week. We don't turn the TV on until after he's in bed. During football season we do turn on gator games with him around.
During the week there's not a lot of time at home before bedtime, so I'm sure that makes a difference.
Age of kids makes a huge difference here. I'm sure we'll be more flexible as they get older, but for now we're pretty strict. Also, screen time still requires full supervision because they want to touch all the things (like trying to lick the TV), so what's the point?
Mine are 21 months. They pretty much only watch TV either while sick or while we're on a plane, when we'll let them watch an episode or two of something (they've seen Daniel Tiger and Peppa Pig). We also let them watch the Charlie Brown Halloween and Thanksgiving specials this fall. They also watch some videos of themselves on our phones.
TV is never on as background noise. That has never been our style, even before kids. We do play lots of music.
We do not watch adult TV while they are awake. I think they've seen two football games, the New Year's Day parade last year, and the Thanksgiving Day parade this year.
An hour a day during the week (30 mins in the morning, 30 while I'm cooking dinner). A lot on the weekend mornings. 2 hours or so.
I never have it on in the background, but I rarely watch tv anyway.
We watch HGTV or FoodNetwork when I'm folding laundry. DD1 can tell you all about the "Zommies" that she sees while watching the Walking Dead from her doorway after going to bed. She says that candy flies out when you hit them in the head. (wilted)
Weekdays he watches about 15-20 minutes in the morning while we finish getting ready. We try to avoid it in the evenings in favor of playing, but he gets one show pretty often. On the weekends, he probably gets 2-3 hours per day.
How much time is it on in the background at home?
Nope, it's only on when we're intentionally watching something.
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake?
How much time does your kid watch tv a day? A few minutes. Even if I put on cartoons she doesn't care for more than a few minutes.
How much time is it on in the background at home? Often. We don't have cable but I like to watch the news in the evening when we get home. SO likes to watch Netflix, mostly action movies, but I told him that now that she's starting to get things more he needs to stop watching stuff with guns and explosions, etc. while she's around.
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? See above, yes, but we're getting better about it. I try to keep in mind that she is absorbing more than we think so we have been trying to keep the shows more kid friendly.

My kids, on average, watch 2 shows a day. One while I shower in the mornings and one in the afternoon so I can get dinner prepped.
We usually don't have the TV on as background otherwise, mostly because they are loud enough themselves that we don't need any extra noise.
We will have shows for us on while they are awake, though it's sports 90% of the time because we save any series for after bedtime when we can actually enjoy it.
He doesn't get anything all day, but then my H takes over from the nanny at 4pm and has him until I'm done with work at around 5pm, sometimes a bit later. I know my H has the TV on pretty much that entire time, either watching news clips, or maybe a show that he watches. Sometimes he'll put on something for B, like Paddington or Thomas. I often come downstairs and give him shit because he'll have something like Grimm or Supernatural on while B is down there playing. He's not paying attention, but I still feel like it's not great content to have in the background for a two year old.
B requests something like Bob the Builder or Sesame Street a few times a week. He watches for maybe 10-15 minutes before he wanders off to play some more. We try to avoid games and shows on our phones at this point unless it's an emergency

My 3 year old gets about an hour on average. I usually limit it to the afternoon, either after nap or in place of nap. I never put the tv on for Chase, but he does sometimes watch with Nods. I do however try to get him engaged in a different activity when it's on.
I never have the tv on as background, but my husband uses a tv as his computer monitor so that's usually on when he is home.
We will occasionally watch something like a cooking show as a family and the kids often watch survivor with me but that's about it.
I actuality have a lot of guilt about Chase getting to watch tv, because I was much stricter with Nods. I also have guilt about letting Nods watch it, because she gets so obsessed with it. She will ask 15 times in a morning if she can watch it.

How much time does your kid watch tv a day? About an hour a day, less or no TV in the summer and sometimes two hours in the winter. DS1 is three and DS2 is almost 14 months and doesn't really pay attention.
How much time is it on in the background at home? Never
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? Only first thing in the morning when I am nursing DS2, he doesn't pay any attention. Usually no more than 30 minutes and it's news.
My kids are 8.5 and 6.5. We do not have the tv on in the background and never watch adult tv in front of them. When they ask to watch tv I almost never say no. They'll watch an episode or 2 of some tv show on Netflix and then go play.
I've never felt the need to add up the number of hours per week. Every day is different. Last week DH was out of town and we were all sick so they spent many, many hours watching tv. This week so far they have not watched any tv. It's not something I stress over.

1-2 hours on weekends. Usually in the morning because I AM PREGNANT AND TIRED.
30 minutes while I make dinner on weeknights, if I can't get her to play in her room.
We watch t.v. while she's awake and playing. Her playroom is right next to the living room. She doesn't care about our shows. Obviously we don't watch anything scary, but we'll catch up on sitcoms or Top Chef.
DD is 14 months and has watched maybe an hour total in her life of kid TV. But we have adult TV on in the background fairly often. Maybe an hour a day on weekends, 30 minutes on the weekdays that she doesn't go to daycare.
Sometimes he watches tv from the time we get home from daycare at 2:15 until we leave for me to take him to H so I can go back to class at 4:45. This is Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday and Thursday probably an hour or 2 before H gets home. I feel bad, but I'm not a toddler person and I have homework that I'm usually working on. He actually watches almost no tv on the weekends. He's almost always playing while watching, so he's not watching tv the whole time.
I like tv, it's usually on. I like to pretend it's educational because we're watching Big Bang Theory or Bones, NCIS, Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. So he's learning something, right? Lol.
I did start binge watching Jane the Virgin yesterday, so he's seen some of that too.

I'm about with @supergreen on the amount of TV for my 3.5yo. The 14mo watches some of it, but mostly isn't interested yet for more than 10-15min at a time.
Of course, I don't have the excuse of pets or farm animals. I'm just a straight up lazy introvert SAHM and sometimes I need my kids to leave me alone for a while.
I don't usually have the TV on with my shows during the week, but DH uses the TV as background noise a lot on weekends. Mostly cooking shows or home improvement.
I SAH. Some days the TV is on...a lot. Other days, it never gets turned on. I don't have any rules about TV time. The only "rule" is that if I see behaviors pop up that I feel are related to watching TV (like whining like stupid Caillou or just general hyperactivity that correlates with DS1), we will have it on less.
I never have it on in the background anymore. DS1 picks up on EVERYTHING, and I'm not ready for that!
We watch a lot of TV once the kids are in bed. Just about only adult show I don't turn off when the kids wake up is Cupcake Wars, or something similar.

1.) There are no strict rules about TV. Typically, during the week she will watch TV 1-2 times during the week. On the weekend, we ususally watch a movie. However, when we travel or on vacation she gets unlimited access. When she is sick, she watches a lot as well. We skype every day with family.
2.) I only turn on the TV when I want to watch something. I keep the radio on for most of the day.
3.) I do not watch adult shows with my child in the room.
Totally depends. Baby gets none. Big kid is almost 6 and in K. During the week either none or less than an hour. Many nights we don't have time and if we do its short. My patience and her behavior have a lot to do with it.
Weekends anywhere from 1 hr to 3hrs. Also depends what we have going on. If she wants to watch I don't say no but she also likes to play a lot. She will start and show and just walk off for something else to do.
TV is never on in the background. The noise bothers me .
This is one of those things where MMM doesn't meet up with my IRL experience. I don't think I know anyone irl who followed the no TV under 2 guideline. It makes me feel guilty and angry with DH. DS1 is a total zombie in front of the TV which is good when we need to contain him but I'd really rather have it be a lot less often.
How much time does your kid watch tv a day? It depends. MIL picks him up from daycare and has gotten into a habit of having the TV on as soon as they walk in the door for about 2 shows (45ish min). I use TV as an absolute last resort but DH feels like it's fine so we are at odds there.
How much time is it on in the background at home? Almost never at our house, 24/7 at FILs house. Another think that bugs me.
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? No, unless you count football.
How much time does your kid watch tv a day? Basically anywhere from 3 - 6 episodes of 30 min shows that need to be watched to get through DD's lunch, DD's dinner, and mommy's coffee time.
How much time is it on in the background at home? When I am home with DD, none. When my mom takes care of her, maybe 50% of the time. When my husband is home with her and I am not around or not paying attention, a lot of sports stay on. So much that last Saturday night, she kept saying something to me and finally I realized she was saying "Field Goal." I did not teach her that.
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? No because language and I can't concentrate on watching TV with DD in the vicinity.

How much time does your kid watch tv a day? Weekdays averages 1 hour (some days he will watch a whole movie some days no TV at all--really depends if we are both home when he gets home from DC at 4. Weekends are weird because sometimes he will watch too much (like 2-3hrs each day and some weekends none at all, depends how busy we are and if DH is working that weekend).
How much time is it on in the background at home? Never. If he stops watching I turn it off.
Do you have adult shows on while your kid is awake? No

He watches an hour a day during the week, but only because he's at daycare. We get home, and I put the TV on while I cook dinner. (DH works evenings, so it's just me and DS).
On weekends, DS can basically watch as much as he wants unless we are doing something different. He probably ends up watching a couple hours per day.
The TV is on all the time when DH is home. I actually very rarely watch tv, and I prefer the quiet. We don't watch adult shows when DS is around, unless it's a sporting event.
