The goldfish location near us you can start at 4 months and I may sign up DD. We are going to St Croix in February and the house we are staying in has a heated pool so we will take her in that.
I think B was about 6-7 months when we started. It was purely fun and games and splashing, but he seemed to enjoy it. We'll do it again this winter, he's 2.5 now.
We started at 4 months. Honestly, we found it a huge pain to get her changed, wrangle with her in the locker room etc just for 25 mins and I really don't think she got a lot out of it but we persevered.
We live in Canada though and it was absolutely hell in the winter having to bundle her up afterwards. Much easier in the summer when we could wear flip flops and be in and out much quicker.
Isn't it the worst? DS starts swim lessons next month and I am just dreading it.
We started DD at 6 months (earliest possible) in the generic "mommy hold me while singing songs and playing with toys in the pool" lessons. She absolutely loves it though. I will keep her in lessons continuously, honestly, I think it's great exposure to swimming. I want her to be absolutely comfortable in the water.
There's a few places that offer them and I think one (British Swim School) is more focused on lessons, dunking/holding breath, etc. And I'm not sure about the other 2 classes, if they are more sing songs/play. I know for sure one of those is in a heated pool though, so that might be a good place to start, especially if we do it this winter/early spring.
FIL's pool is outdoor so we wouldn't use it until summer and I think giving DD some "practice"/exposure before then would be nice. She likes baths and we sometimes will hold her in the tub to allow her to kick in the water (without the support part of the tub, just our hands on her head/shoulders), and she enjoys that.
I think for the first go around I'll look at it as for fun and experience, and hope for the best!
Did anyone use a swim cap for their LO? Do they make them that small? DD has a ton of hair, I don't mind getting wet but it'll be in her face and also needs to be dried before going outside.

We started at 5 months at Goldfish. DD absolutely loves swim class, and they also have family swim time. We try to go a couple of times a month to help reinforce the things that they do in class.
