Thanks for the recipe Kari. I'll have to try that sometime soon.
No problem! It is really good. Sometimes I change the dry chili mixture becuase they aren't all available at my store, but everything I have done is good.
I'm from Texas, but my parents are from Ohio and Michigan (respectively), so they always put beans in when they made chili. DH (then boyfriend) still recalls making chili for the first time and me asking him really sheepishly if we could put beans in it. I know it's not traditional, especially in Texas, but I love it anyway. DH makes awesome, untraditional chili. We also put it over spaghetti pretty often. I'm a bad Texan.

[Priya has made some homemade chili, albeit with beans, which is counter to the Texan definition of chili - Sheldon is Texan - and the fact is fodder for know-it-all Sheldon] Priya: Would you like some homemade chili? Sheldon Cooper: Are there beans in it? Priya: Yes? Sheldon Cooper: Then it's not chili. Real chili has no beans in it, but you're from a foreign land, so your ignorance is forgiven. Priya: [Sheldon tries some of Priya's chili] Sheldon Cooper: Mmmm, this is good... whatever it is.

Chili belongs over spaghetti with a massive heap of shredded cheddar cheese on it. With oyster crackers on the side. And only Skyline chili is good, forget any other "Cincinnati" chili.

I like all kinds of chili, but some kinds of chili seem more like beef stew to me, except they don't have vegetables. I feel kind of weird eating a huge bowl of meat with sauce and nothing else.
If I'm eating ground beef chili, I like having beans in it. I feel like it makes it slightly healthier. Maybe I'm deluding myself.
Did I miss an announcement? Why are you giving up beer?
NOT pregnant (hence the question about cocktails). Beer makes me feel really bad. If I have one beer, I can eat half my meal, and I'll have a distended stomach and be in pain for hours. It's very sad.

Does anyone eat cinnamon rolls with their chili? Is this a regional thing, too? We always ate cinnamon rolls with our chili growing up but DH thinks it's crazy.

And our chili has beans in it.
Ha, never ate cinnamon rolls with chili. But I guess it kind of makes sense since I put cinnamon in my chili....kind of.
DH eats saltines with enchiladas, which I think is odd.

Try a gluten free beer.
I have. It is the only beer I can drink. I don't mind it, and I will probably drink it this weekend at the baseball game because GF beer is $5.50 and a cocktail is $9. But overall, I prefer cocktails to GF beer.
I am totally making chilling right now, ground turkey, black beans, tomatos, & I bought the spice packet ( shame) it's gonna be delish. We should have a mm chili cookoff.
