I understand where you are coming from. I was born with brown hair with red highlights and have looked good with dark brown. I am very Irish/Scottish looking.
However, I went with blond highlights for a drastic look and loved it... then I kept up with the highlights and turned blond overall. I gotten so many compliments and now I am sort of a medium blond. I never regret it but I do have to go in every 6 weeks for roots touch ups. I am more than half grey so I don't have a choice with the follow-ups.
Have you thought about going with a copper hair color as a compromise?

I do, and it is natural. Though I did just try some black rainbow henna from Whole Foods on it this weekend, and only that stubborn gray in my bangs has changed color, so it's not too stark a black.
No! The blonde was an ordeal. A pretty one, but an ordeal.
I'll probably get a medium or dark brown semi-perm box to start with and see how it goes from there. Brown isn't scary!
I'm jealous that you can do it yourself from a box... I just dropped $150 to get my hair highlighted and cut today. I love it but it's freaking expensive.

I did my hair recently brown with red highlights so that I can part my hair one way and have RED (almost purple) and part it another and it just looks brown-work appropriate and fun appropriate. It's like the awesome mullet of dye jobs. i couldn't do it myself, though. Fortunately, my hair lady is super cheap-75$ for the color, highlights and cut.
I actually think you are a smoking blonde, but if you don't want the upkeep I'd do an auburn or a dark mocha brown.
I vote for brunette with blond highlights!! Red is the hardest to keep in your hair and u could do a warm brunette with blond highlights to incorporate all the colors with less upkeep!!! You're beautiful
i love the red, but yeah i know how it fades out, even when i used the aveda madder root shampoo and conditioner, it helped keep it in longer but it would still fade...which is why i ended up with black hair for the longest time.
but you can do a brown with honey highlights and red lowlights...I've done that before, and loved it.
Then I wouldn't do black, I feel like that is an easy color to fuck up. My sister did hers black and it ended up being blue.
I'd go with a brown that you love. Blonde is hard to do yourself too I think. You didn't do that blonde in the pic yourself did you?
in Iraq the only option i had to do was black that i couldn't mess up (i had red fading hair) it was easy, and it was supposed to be non-permanant...yeah right...
i never thought i could do black hair, but i loved it so much it was hard for me to change, and i spent up until end of college a blonde.
and the box black by Feria sucks....it is supposesd to be permanent but it faded out, the non-permanent would NOT come out...so when ever I wanted to go lighter, it required a trip to the salon...granted my salon serves complimentary wine while you are getting your hair done. there are some great things about PA.
