This is really embarrassing and I have no good excuse, but here it goes. My husband and I have been trying on and off for several years to get pregnant and have not been successful. This is the flameful part. I have never had an annual exam. I am 33, turning 34 in 4 months. My husband will be 38. My husband is the only sexual partner I have ever had. I have type 2 diabetes, but I am not over weight. I also have Hashimotos (I have a lumpy thyroid) but my thyroid levels are normal without medicine.
I know I need to make an appointment with a doctor to have an annual exam. My question is this. Would you make an appointment with a gynecologist and probably wait a couple/few months to get in and then see about maybe a RE. Or should I try to make the appointments concurrently? Also, my primary Doctor does do annual exams and I might be able to get in sooner with him.
Not flameful - I think there are a lot of folks in your position! I would just go see an OB/GYN. They should do a PAP (I assume that is what you mean by annual exam) and talk to you about fertility. I wouldn't go to your PCP just because he can get you in sooner.
FWIW, paps are no longer recommended annually for the majority of the population. But you should definitely go in and see a gynecologist! When you book your appointment, let them know that you need an exam, a pap, and want to discuss fertility. That way they can set aside enough time for the discussion.
