"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
@kirkette, thank you for giving this board somewhere purposeful and helpful to put their growth, learning, anguish, emotion, love, and true desire to leave the world better than we found it. Not in a "gee I just saved the world" kind of way, but in a "I have an obligation to be an agent of social change" kind of way.
Fuck yeah, I will! I actually had a couple tabs open from when I asked you before. Thanks for the reminder. You're awesome, and a force for good in a world that needs goodness. Fist bump.
@kirkette: I hate to ask this because this is an awesome post and an awesome idea, but can you also put a shout out for helping kids in Flint in your OP? Because, fuck. The racism in the way that is playing out is horrendous and deep. Or ignore this. because it is pretty insulting and ridiculous to insert myself here. I don't want to derail the good you are doing. But I can't stop screaming internally about Flint.

You are such an amazing person Kirkette. Thank you for being you.
I'm going to AW for a second here because great minds and all that. It was teacher in-service day today and the girls and I spent the afternoon with GD1's third grade teacher, who has moved to a Title 1 school in the district (it helps pay for her Masters) and we brought a few bags of items for her gift box, supplies for her kids and a few gifties for her (a couple sets of Sharpies, a heart-shaped Post-it holder with a pad of Post-its and a couple other little things. You know, teacher stuff.) The girls helped clean and set up her room for the new semester and we talked while she was able to clean off her desk.
Even on our off-days we somehow end up at a school. lol. I'm awing because I love this picture I took today. It cracks me up.
Taking a pic of the grands and Kiddo's third grade teacher taking a selfie. lol.
Of course, it goes without saying that I'll be donating. You know my kryptonite.

I will keep it at the top of mind.
It takes $30k to start a new jkl program. This pays for everything, so that schools, students, and instructors on the ground never have to pay for anything out of pocket. The after school program is open to all high school kids who want to join Donation money (such as yours) is not used for staff salaries or overhea. Each dollar raised all goes straight back to the kids. Staff salaries and nonprofit overhead come directly from Lincoln commercial royalties, product placements, red carpet walks, and speaking engagements.
I'm hoping to get a Detroit based family friend involved, in hopes that he'll want to sponsor some programs, in Michigan.
If if anyone has questions about jkl, or knows of corporations in a tax situation, service events needing volunteer, or has in kind goods they'd like to pass along to awesome groups of teens, please feel free to PM me. I am happy to chat about opportunities for involvement.
