I've been seeing some pillows for purchase that look like a low pile hook, or perhaps needlepoint done with thick yarn. I included a picture of one. I've googled and can't find anything on it. Is there such a thing that can be DIY?
It's called locker hooking. It's an awful lot like rug hooking, but, the technique varies a bit, at least I think! I've rug hooked (what 80's kid didn't?), but, locker hooking wasn't on my radar until recently.
It looks like it could be locker hooking. With LH, you use hook-and-rug grids and a needle; it's a 'pull-through" method. An alternative could be punch-rug hooking which uses a shrinkable fabric as the base. Since it uses a fabric rather than the plastic grid it would end up with a softer, more pliable surface. Rather than a needle, it uses a punch to push through fabric. I'm more familiar with the punch rugs, as my grandmother used to do them. I remember a rose one she had on a frame that she'd worked on for ages. Lol. (Punch is what you'll generally find on loop rugs. It's a very simple process, actually.)
