What shorts do you like for your toddlers? C will wear 4t or 5t this summer. Last year I felt like most shorts were too short. Where do you buy cotton shorts that are sort of mid length?

I buy boys' shorts sometimes. My kid is younger than yours, but I see myself continuing to do this, as I agree that a lot of girls' shorts seem super short, even for toddlers.
We did biker shorts too. Osh Kosh and Carters had them last year in toddler sizes; I'm not sure about older kid sizes. Jumping Bean also carried them but theirs ran a little shorter.
Not the best picture of just the shorts, but you get the idea. They had them all the way up to size 5T and were great. I bought tons of pairs and will do the same if Target brings them back this year too.
We had trouble finding anything mid-length in 5s last summer. We ended up with a lot of bike shorts from Gymboree that she wore with tunics. I did find one pair of white eyelet shorts at Gymboree that hit an inch or so above her knee.

I like the Children's place skorts. H & M has had cute shorts in the past, too, but I don't think they were long.
I don't really get long shorts for kids, though. It's just more material to make a kid hot. DD would run outside naked in the summer if I let her. As it is, she spends most of her non-camp time in a bathing suit at the playground (there are sprinklers there), no shorts or skorts at all.
Now, short shorts exposing my thighs is another issue. But that's me being self-conscious. No need to project my issues on DD.

I just don't think wanting shorts long enough to not reveal underwear or a diaper when playing is me projecting body image issues on to my daughter. In fact, I'm sure it's not.
I always forget about kohls. We got a couple jumping bean brand outfits as gifts at Christmas and the pants fit really well. I'll check there for sure. I hesitated on the Target ones last year because Circo is usually a poor fit for my huge kd but maybe I'll give them a try too.
look for bermuda shorts. I got some from Target. My daughter does not wear jeans, so these were a terry/cotton material. They were in the girls section, not the toddler section.

I didn't say YOU were projecting, I said I would be projecting if I objected to DD wearing short shorts, or, as I outlined above, just a bathing suit in public.
Yep, Target had the cutest bermuda-length jegging shorts last year! Cheap and go with everything. I'm going to buy several pairs if they have them this year.
They're not online yet, but hopefully that doesn't mean anything. I loved them last year so much! Tag me if you see they have them please.

Last year we did the Jumping Beans knit shorts that are called Bermuda, but they are not actually what I would call a Bermuda short. We also did some of the circo jegging shorts mentioned above.

This was my issue with a lot of shorts as well. We had regular Carters shorts as well, and I felt like every time DD1 bent over or climbed on something, her Pull-Up stuck out the bottom. I just don't think little kids' shorts should be THAT short.

When coupled with your comment about "not understanding" wanting longer shorts for a kid, it does seem to be talking about people other than you.
The Target jegging ones are my favorite. Really hope they bring them back this summer and in a normal denim color, not some acid wash atrocity. I am scouring the racks at consignment sales for some from the last few years but no luck so far.
Hanna Andersson makes some longer shorts too that aren't tight bike shorts but of course they are more $$ than Target shorts.

I don't understand because it's hard to imagine kids who will happily wear whatever their parents pick out for them. I would not choose a battle with my kid who prefers wearing the least amount of clothing possible in summer. The length thing regarding my own sartorial preferences was a random afterthought.

DD's upper thighs skid on the slide at the playground when wearing the super short shorts. I like the longer length so when she sits they don't ride up like that. No body image issues projecting over here. Just being practical. (And I live in TX where it's ass hot outside in the summers so typically the fewer clothes, the better)
