We had more of a color scheme than an actual theme. I'm glad we did too because many of the pieces are gender neutral enough that I feel we could reuse if we have a girl next time. I really wanted to do a dinosaur theme but I couldn't find anything I liked. Here are some pics:

we're doing a lot of black and white and gold, with greys and pops of brighter colors like coral, pink, etc. i HATE pastel nurseries with all matching bedding and wall hangings and whatnot.

Ours is mint/gold and we will add in pops of either navy blue or pink after baby is born - mint green walls - white furniture - gold dot sheets & changing pad - gold frames on wall (with pics of animals that look like gold glitter) - white mirror - rug and other wall hangings will be pink or blue

Somehow I ended up going with birds. I don't know, I'm not generally bird-crazy or anything, but I kept seeing cute bird stuff on pinterest, so I just went with it. The walls are green, the furniture is white, there are grey and white curtains, and a lot of the decorations are yellow. We haven't decorated it yet (you don't want me to complain about my house issues again, do you? ), but here are some things we have:
Birch tree decals for behind the crib:
This print, in a yellow frame:
Mobile:
I had this at work for my coat, so I'm going to bring it home to use for towels:
G's was a nautical theme using blues and grays. I still love and feel like it's something he can grow with. My favorite piece is two distressed I got from etsy that are white with navy stripes.
I'm waiting impatiently to find out what this baby is so I can start making nursery plans. Pinterest is a great place to start!
Our nursery is going to have a very, very subtle astronomy theme. Mostly it's navy and tan with contrasting patterns.
I have constellation print fabric that is the backing for both the glider quilt and the baby's quilt that is navy with bright colors. The quilts are both star style patchwork patterns. We have one crib sheet that is white with tan stars. We received a small dish that we're going to put up and have an embroidery hanging of his zodiac sign's constellation, which will both be worked into the gallery wall. I am debating a brass telescope shadowbox for the wall, but that can be decided much, much later.
I am also debating a canvas on Etsy for above the crib since I'd be able to drill the hangers into the frame, I just have to find the right one.
Ours is shaping us to be a safari animal theme in beige and pastel pink, but it's not based off of a matching set, we've sort of been buying stuff here and there and it's all coming together.
Walls are pale beige and floors are heart pine. It's a small room but very light with two big old windows. Furniture is off-white crib, dresser, and glider. I found a beautiful fabric that is a very soft animal print in white, beige, and pink, and my grandmother is making curtains. I bought prints of different safari animals (monkey, giraffe, elephant, and lion) and matted and framed them. Sheets are solid pink and I have some mix and match baskets in neutral colors for storage.
The special thing in the nursery will be a big wooden giraffe my great-grandfather made and was in my nursery when I was born. It used to be primary colors but needed to be cleaned up, so my mom and sister repainted it beige, pink, and white, and added an inscription on the bottom about how five generations have been a part of it.
I haven't decided yet either. I saw some on Pinterest that I liked - gray and pale yellow with aqua accents which is what I'm leaning toward right now.
For DD, I just chose a colour scheme and went from there. Hers had gray walls with a purple accent wall behind the crib that had a giant tree decal with a couple birds. The accent colours were lime and teal. Then I got coordinating accessories and art.
We're going with grey, white and teal/turquoise/greenish blue ish. I'm still undecided on an actual theme because I wanted to have some Peter Pan inspired accents ("Never grow up", etc.) but things are either too expensive or don't fit well with the colors so I'm undecided with how I will finish up the nursery.
DH still has to finish the dresser (he's fixing up an old one) and we have to buy curtains and a lamp/night light of sorts and then I think we'll add wall decor.
I have a really cute Peter Pan mobile pinned if you're looking for inspiration! It'd be work to DIY but doable very inexpensively if you're willing to print it character silhouettes and buy card stock.

This is a second baby and the poor kiddo isn't even getting a room yet. We have a large master that is the third floor (trilevel) so we will set up the cosleeper, crib, and get another dresser up here for the first months. Eventually we will move the playroom into the basement and create a real room next to DD's.
DD was in our room for two years and only moved into her nursery in a twin bed. Her room is a favorite of mine. No theme, just lots of color and pattern. It's yellow and white with purple, navy, orange, and pink. I'm not very into nurseries so I intentionally went for a brighter pallette and "kids room" feel.
Just colors. Red, brown and blue. Very simple. Three verses MIL wrote out in calligraphy and once DS is here we'll do a picture with all of our handprints will be hung on the walls. That's it. No theme. My twin sis tried to talk me into it but we like simple and the nursery is still currently an office. So it has no baby stuff in it at all yet and I'm 27 weeks. I'm getting antsy. H says I'm nesting. Whatever.
Ours is a loosely woodland theme. Walls and glider are grey, white cribs and changing table, grey and white chevron curtains, bedding is pink/white/grey with little animals for the girl, Aqua/grey/white for the boy. Artwork is woodland themed ABCs and 123s wall hangings, plus some feather decals. Feather hanging mobiles above the cribs.
We didn't really have a theme. I have a couple of framed prints of London and Paris on the wall (not above the crib because of earthquake safety), and all our furniture is the same IKEA dark brown. That's about as far as we got.
No themes for either of my kids. I chose bedding I loved for DD's nursery and used that to build off of, and did the same for DS's nursery nook. (Sharing office space)
I chose to handle things similarly when arranging DD's big girl room, as we needed her crib and such for her baby brother!
I wanted palettes and "feelings", not an actual obvious theme. That sounds stupid but it's true!
Well we've been team green each time so it was a color theme instead of a traditional theme. We did buy some prints off Etsy that were of different animals that we built into it a little, but that's it.
I don't want a theme but would prefer the room to flow with the rest of the house (a 1930s Craftsman cottage). Here are some of my favorite inspiration pics, we won't really get started until we know the gender (mid-March):
I think I've decided on a nautical theme. I really like the whales and waves stuff from Target so I'm going to get a few items as a starting point (sheets, mobile, change pad cover) and then take my colour scheme from that and look around for other stuff to add. Maybe a decal, there are some cute ones on etsy.
