C is 5 (will be 6 in August) and in preschool (missed the cutoff, will go to K this fall). She's reading already - really well on her own - but we also read at night at bedtime.
Her teachers told me she really liked the Magic Treehouse books they read in classroom. For Christmas, she got books 1-4 of the series. We're on the fourth book now. I asked her if she wanted the next set of books. She's kinda eh about it. They've read them all in class, so it's not a "new" story for her.
Can anyone else suggest other similar chapter books that we can read together? Her suggestion was Harry Potter, but I think I should save that for a year or two from now!
Does she like fancy Nancy? There is a series of chapter books where she is a detective, Nancy Clancy. Also there are some Disney ones about the fairies.

Oh yeah - Neverland Girls has been a pretty good hit around here too.

My kids like the Toys Go Out series. We also have the Mercy Watson books. DS1 liked Charlotte's Web as a read aloud. It had more guns, and discussion of death than I remembered, though.
It sounds like your child is not going to have any trouble with Kindergarten. My daughter is 6 and in Kindergarten and this is the type of little paper book her teacher is sending home for the kids to read. My daughter is pretty bored with this type of stuff, she likes the Fancy Nancy series because it also has vocabulary words mixed in.
Another vote for Beverly Cleary and Wayside School! Also, I used to LOVE the Pee Wee Scouts series...not sure if they still sell those but, man, good memories!

At that age my oldest LOVED the Rainbow Magic Fairies. There are million different stories. They weren't my favorite, but she seriously devoured them.
Other suggestions: Mercy Watson, Ivy and Bean, Daisy Dawson, Princess Posey, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon (not a series, but one of my favorite books that I read with the kids), The Best Loved Doll
