Heya ladies - I usually don't post much here, but I thought I'd ask here first!
So I just bought a condo, painted (it was a dingy light yellow), bought new furniture, and am starting to try to decorate/fill in the empty spots. I have LOTS of empty wall space, and this space in my living room (which is open to my eat-in kitchen) is stumping me.
The room is long, so I broke it up by putting the couch in the middle - I'm standing in the kitchen. What should I put on the wall above the couch? 1 large pic/painting/piece of art or a series of something?
(Sorry for the weird lighting - tons of shadows today!)
I love the paint color! You own anything already that you are considering? What's your style like? Have you considered adding some crown molding to the room?

I like the color too.
For those first three more abstract paintings, I like just one really large one on the wall.
However, a couple of those are similar colors and so I could see faming them the same and putting two on the walls like this picture:
You could then still do a wall of art later for behind the sofa. Like the one behind this couch would look good with similar wood/colored frames as the big one, but the collage would be on the wall to the left in your room behind the couch.
I think I'd also put something on top of the corner cabinet to fill the space between the cabinet and ceiling.
Maybe a round metal basket filled with a rolled-up blanket or something?
I am of the 'buy what you love and find a place to hang it" school of thought, which means that sometimes I have one piece on a wall making a statement, (which I think would look great in your space, but it needs to be pretty big), or a gallery wall (what is going to happen in most rooms in my house because we have too many windows and doors, and not much wall space-lol).
Crown molding seems out of place in that space to me. From what I can see, and the art you posted, I get a feeling that you lean a bit more toward contemporary than traditional. Or maybe that's just me.lol
I'm right there with you TBM with the "buy what you love and find a place to hang it" - I have a few pieces that I'm going to hang in this place, no matter what!
Just for the hell of it, here's the wall behind the couch - where I was definitely planning a gallery wall, downtoearth (and I like your idea of 2 similar pieces on the other wall above the couch):
And I realize that the china cabinet sticks out like a sore thumb, but it belonged to my grandmother, and it's sentimental. It also has colored inlays (on the lower doors that you can't see), so it has to stay that color.
Oh, and disregard the random lamp with no shade - the wine bar/buffet has become a catch-all of random decor for now!

I love the little china cabinet, especially bc it has some history!
I too subscribe to the "put what you like" on the wall. We are in the blank wall stage now and will do a mix of prints and photos. I love photography more than abstract art or paintings...but we also like posters too.
I would put a fave piece above the couch as a focal point and fill it in. You could also do photo ledges and that makes it even easier to swap things out as needed!
