OMG I loved Quantum Leap. And Scott Bakula. And Al was so cool. With his little tetris looking remote thing. "Hoping this leap...will be the leap home." Sigh.
I love this show. My favorite episode is actually a two-parter, called The Leap Home.
Mine too!! The end of pt. 2 (when he sees Al being taken POW) gave me goosebumps.
Actually, he doesn't see Al being taken prisoner then.
It's at the end of the episode, when he's changed history by saving his brother, Tom, from being killed in Vietnam.
They are remarking on the death of the photographer, Maggie, who joined their camp for a time and was killed.
Al remarks that she got the Pulitzer (which she had proclaimed earlier she would sell her soul for) and that she got it for the last photograph she ever took.
Sam quickly rifles through the photographs. Her last photograph was of Al, looking back into the camera, as as POW.

But wasn't there somewhere in the episode where you see that photograph being taken in 'real time'? Except we don't see his face at that point. Been a long time since I've seen that episode.

Yes - we see Maggie taking photographs of POWs earlier in the episode, not long before her death. We even see Al turning back to look at her but we don't see his face (i.e. know it's Al) until the photograph.
