I just finished a 2 year online program. No desk at home--mostly I worked on the couch but sometimes I would sit at the table to work on a project or something. It was all online so I can't answer the 2nd question.
1. No desk, I use the kitchen table but plan on getting a desk.
2. When I went to campus (I do online classes now), I didn't bother bringing my laptop. Too many people hovered around the plugs and slow WiFi. I would just use the computer lab or library depending on my class schedule.
Well, I just work at the same desk I use for work. Although if I'm not actually doing online work, I usually read my textbooks on the kitchen island. My classes are online, but I prefer taking notes in a notebook because I am an Old.
I have a desk with a laptop that serves as a desktop computer (with a big ass monitor) and a laptop. I sometimes take the laptop to class, and there are students who take all their notes on them. I will never be that, I prefer to write stuff down. When i need a surface I generally use the dining room table.
I actually read an article or study that you absorb more information by taking notes by hand than by typing them as you listen to a lecture. Somehow when you're typing what you hear, you can kind of bypass the part of your brain that absorbs the information. It goes straight from ear to screen somehow.

I have a desk at home. I used it a handful of times. I did most of my studying either on campus or at the dining room table (closer to the fridge. lol).
I did take my laptop to some classes. Some professors didn't allow them.
Ok, good to know. I do prefer to take notes by hand, but um... laptops weren't really a thing when I got my undergrad, so I didn't know how much things had changed.
I have no room for a desk, but I thought it might be good to have a dedicated study spot.

I'm still in school. I have a desk that I never use, I sit on the couch or at the dining room table with my laptop.
I've only brought my laptop to class on rare occasions- primarily in some of my computer courses where the school PCs didn't have the software I needed. Definitely not for note taking.

I have a cheapo Ikea desk in my room dedicated to school stuff, and when I want to feel more social I work on a card table set up in the living room.
I take a laptop to school, (the campus computers are pretty grotty). I don't use it for notes (math notes on a laptop are a nightmare) but it's great for doing homework or reading e-textbooks between classes.
I have both a desk top and a laptop. Most of my work is done using AutoCAD, SolidWorks and other graphic programs and trying to run those (and to see to draw) on my laptop is miserable. I guess I could hook up my laptop to my large monitor, but it was really cheaper to buy a desktop with the power and memory I need. So I use my laptop to run programs like Office. It depends upon what I'm taking as to whether or not I take my laptop with me. This semester, since all my classes are drawing, I don't bother.
In school, we have some really good desk tops that we use to draw, comparable to what I have at home.
Whoops, I saw you asked about a desk. My desk top is used at a desk, obviously. Laptop usually used in front of the TV on my lap.
1. No desk. I used the kitchen table sometimes, but mostly I worked from the couch or my bed.
2. Yes, I took notes on my laptop. I'm a much faster typer than writer, so personally I was able to take more detailed notes on my laptop versus by hand.

I'm in an online program, and I have a desk at home. However, H and I are DINKS and we both have our own offices. If we were still in our apartment, I would probably work at the kitchen table.
It's been a few years but, while I had a desk, I mostly ended up doing my work on the couch with my laptop.
I took my laptop to school. However, I took most of my notes by hand and typed them up later. Forced me to look at them again AND there was no temptation to dick around on the internet during class.
DS is in school. He does not have a desk. He generally reads in a lounge on campus, on the train or in his room. When he needs to write, he takes his laptop into DH's library.
Laptop travels to school. He doesn't take notes on it, but a couple of his classes have online resources and readings and sometimes he starts papers on campus. I don't think he takes extensive lecture notes.
I am in grad school, and I have a desk at home in the study. I need it is because I get sleepy stuying or reading anywhere else. Also I need to keep my school stuff and asssignments safe from my toddler.
I have a Surface Pro and I love it, I take it with me to school and work. It can be used as a laptop and a tablet and it is amazing to take notes on.
Yes. I didn't at first but once I started using one it made such a difference! One of the benefits is I don't feel the need to clean up my books/papers every time I'm done studying for the day.
No. Some of my classmates do. I don't because of a convenience factor.
Yes and I use it for all my lectures here it makes sense to use it. I type my lecture notes so I can get everything and then do my outlines and study guides by hand for the tactile learning.
