Happy Ash Day to those Catholics out there... Lent is upon us and I know my FB has some people already holding themselves accountable for changes or deprivations. Anybody planning that here?
Me, I am not Catholic anymore, so I don't observe, but it does make it feel like spring is near and I do like the idea of spending a month reflecting on how you live and what you could do to live better.
Oh and my random is that I like the sound of my corduroy pants zing-zinging together as I walk down the hall. It's like a tiny walking soundtrack to my life.

Hey, it's not only Catholics who observe Ash Wednesday and Lent! #episcopaliansrepresent
I went to church early this AM, which was nice because it was a small crowd and a short service. I have some ideas for what I'm going to do rustling around in my head, but I need to commit pen to paper on them.

Not religious so don't observe lent, but I do appreciate that it means the fish sandwiches are back at Wendy's. Sooo much better than a sorry fillet-o-fish.

The extent of my lenten observance is the no meat and fasting thing. Which, actually, is a thing that we really do need to focus on - less meat in our diet, less junk food. So.
Random: I've essentially re-started my new cross stitch project. It's going to be so pretty when it's done.

Another fun fact - when half your breakfast is eaten by the ravenous children you live with you will be fucking starving by 10:30. #isitlunchtimeyet

My friend was a Episcopalian growing up and he used to say he was "Catholic-Lite: all the ceremony without the baggage."

I'm usually starving by 10:30 anyway. I'm pretty sure the Sudafed is the only reason I'm not. Speed is suddenly seeming like not a half bad weight loss program - I am crazy hyper with no hunger.

Oh and CO people, I know we have quite a few here, what do you think of this? Like 6+ people have shared it on FB today and I don't feel so good about it. Yeah Broncos, boo to this meme!

My son's school did a "march" this morning in honor of MLK. The classes made signs and they played clips from the actual March and "We Shall Overcome" over the speakers while everyone walked through the school (was supposed to be outside, but cold). Then the older kids read the "I Have A Dream" speech.
The school is probably one of the most diverse in the city, in terms both terms of race and SES. I know there's still much work to be done, but it was still inspiring and I feel proud to be a part of the community.

And just a vent/massive understatement: Managing mental health is hard.
I've struggled all my life with some combination of depression/anxiety/adhd, but never really accepted those struggles as a true chemical imbalance. I'm not even sure I know what "normal" feels like. (Does anyone?). But it's frustrating as it takes time and costs a shit ton of money. And then, on top, my pharmacy plan is trying to insert itself and adding fees for me not filling prescriptions like they want me too.

I just left a local FB group because people were complaining that our governor issued an apology for Delaware's role in the slave trade. Apparently, this is perpetuating hte race card and black people need to move on. They never owned slaves so what to they have to apologize for? Then a whole bunch of Bible quotes to show that all cultures practiced slavery.

I hadn't seen it. It's pretty gross. I don't like the implication that we are somehow better than other cities.
I am off to Charlottesville, VA this weekend and I failed to properly take off work so I can't drive down with H and our friends. Poor me. I have to take the train. By myself. 4.5 hours of glorious me time. I'm trying to pretend I'm sad about not being able to drive down with them but I don't think I'm pulling it off well. I'm sure my not so secret glee will be rewarded with some horrible delay.
Also, no longer Catholic so I am not giving up anything for Lent. I am recommitting to running because that half marathon is coming up fast.

I guess I didn't think anything of it other than it's amazing that many people came into a place, and then out of it, without any issues. Denver isn't perfect. During the protest marches last year (it was last year right?) some idiot in a car ran over a policeman who was there to protect the kids marching from traffic.

@bimbi so sorry that your grandparents are sick, hope they are better soon earlgreyhot it stinks that you are dealing with the pharmacy on top of your own needs. I hope it gets figured out soon. And more importantly, wishing you and your mental health all the best.
I do observe Lent and I have figured out what sacrifices I want to make. I am excited and hope that I finish. I quit far too many things ;0

Hugs, I've been dealing with this for about a year (same combo) and it's so freaking hard. I hope you figure it all out!
My hypochondria is at an all-time high, as is my general anxiety. It's wreaking havoc on my nervous system and I always have to go to the bathroom. Total TMI, sorry!!

Big hugs. Sadly, I totally understand what you're going through. I don't really know "Normal" either - I just know fear. Constant fear.
