Today is DS's class Valentine's Day party. I am so proud of him. He's an active almost 4yo, like all kids his age it's hard for him to sit still. But yesterday he sat at the dining table with me for over an hour and made valentines for all 13 of his classmates, teachers, and reading buddies. We did simple store-bought cards that are vehicle-themed (they say stuff like "I dig you!"), he colored them with markers, put on stickers, and helped me tie a bag of Annie's gummy bunnies to each card. He's so excited to hand them out today!
You guys would die if you saw dd1's loot from dance class valentines swap yesterday. An old fashioned milk bottle full of m&ms, full goody bags, a fucking red Mondo juice drink. MOTY here left dd1's dollar store Doc sticker Valentines at home. I feel like I must be the only person who has epic battles with candy. We just finally finished Halloween candy. Each day we spend half an hour discussing when we can eat our piece of candy, what it'll be, when we can eat it tomorrow, does a pack count as one piece or multiple pieces..... Basically my kid is a junkie and anyone who gives her more offends me. lol.
Are food concerns (as in, only healthy foods) just an Internet thing? DS had his Valentines celebration yesterday and came home with a TON of candy. One parent did goldfish, one did pretzels, and we did a little toy, but the rest all did big treat bags of candy. The kids have an average age of about 1.5.

It's crazy! My oldest has 20 kids in her preschool class. 15 of them brought goody bags Of candy. Then there's my kid with her little box of stickers she handed out.

Yeah I agree that's strange. We're doing applesauce pouches, so I'm interested to see what everyone else does. All the kids in their room are around 15 months.
Seriously about the candy. I remember in school everyone just exchanged the little cards, and there was "maybe" one kid that would have a sucker taped to theirs and everyone was like "ooooooo aaaaahhhh a SUCKER!"

I think it depends on where you live. I used to do a lot of playdates in a college town where everyone works at the university and is highly educated. You'd better have had a serious explanation if you provided anything other than organic unsweetened applesauce and water. Now my kid goes to preschool in a different town and all bets are off. DD2 got treat bags full of Debbie cakes in her 1s class last year. I'm not sure which bugs me more.

Most people did not do anything in the room at that age. Now it's mostly candy.
We signed up to bring donut holes to tomorrow's party. Other choices were doritos and cupcakes. I am sure that wouldn't go over well here, lol.

5 month old baby, day 4 of fever (reaches 103ish). Responds to meds when she doesn't barf immediately. Would you call the pedi? Ptetty sure it started as RSV since big sister had it last week.
Eta- not struggling to breathe, but definitely deep congestion she's having a hard time coughing up.
Ugh, tried to log on remotely and apparently my work pc is off? Glad I was logging on now and not after preschool drop off (which puts me back at the house at 9am).
There is a good chance my work computer is gone completely since almost everyone else is moved and there are rumors that we're being moved to another floor.
I can make it to work w/ plenty of time, but I'm in comfy clothes and don't want to change.

This is DS. I mean this was the kid that counted his Halloween candy each day to make sure I did not take any. We have a new rule that we can only have candy on stay at home days (so weekends). I refuse to do candy for valentines (they are getting temp tattoos instead). I am not excited about the amount of candy that will come home tomorrow, especially since I can no longer steal it without him knowing!

I just reordered checks. (Yes, I still use them to pay my DCP and occasionally pay bills). The cheapest shipping option cost more than the checks! The checks were $17, shipping is $22. WTF? Is this normal?
I'm super early for a doctor's appointment so I'm GBCNing. DS is almost 3 and this is the first time I've even considered sending Valentines. I stopped at CVS this morning but they didn't have many. Either I'll grab those on the way home or I'll DIY something simple.

I just don't see Doritos fitting into Valentine's Day. Candy and sweets yes but Doritos?
False. Doritos go with everything. Also, they're kind of red.
The only thing left for me to sign up for was veggies (wilted) Of course I am trying to make it cute, so heart cut out cucumber slices & cherry tomatoes sliced and held together with a toothpick to look like a heart.
There is no candy allowed at his school, but that's nothing new. They wholeheartedly follow a no artificial color/flavor, no added sugar, no nuts, wholesome as possible food policy and expect food we send to follow suit.

DS was never in daycare, and started preschool at 3.5. So he's older than the kids in your situation. But all the holiday celebrations result in treat bags just like what you described.
Today is my first day at work this week after being home with DD and her strep throat ickiness. I really just wish I was "staying" on maternity leave instead of going back because as much as I hate that she was sick I enjoyed the one-on-one time with her pre-baby. I'm supposed to start maternity leave mid-Tuesday but I think I'm going to bump it to close of business tomorrow. I have two doctors appointments Monday that would keep me out until close to noon and then I leave around lunch Tuesday so it just doesn't seem worth it, though I feel bad about it.
They're all about the healthy snacks here. Luckily no one in J's class is doing Valentines so I don't have to worry about obtaining organic kale chips for the party.
Also a friend of ours is turning her one year old twins FFing in the car and it's the first time I've really felt "eeek!" about the issue. I know people who have turned at 20 months or 18 months but a year just seems so young to me. I know its technically legal though in our state. (and I know because she posted pics of their new car seats since they are "big kids now!" and the seats are Britax frontiers.)
I would feel super eek about this too! :-| DD is 11 months and I can't even fathom turning her, she's just too little! And she's not a little baby either, she's 31" and 23lbs. And holy crap to Britax Frontiers, DS is 4yo and 42"/42lbs and still looks small in his Frontier. I would send her some CSFTL pages for sure.

Our DC combats this as best they can by not allowing chocolate and anything nut, but the amount of sugar my kid will end up eating tomorrow at her party and then bring home means it'll be a late Friday night for us.

Nope. Both kids' schools say no candy or food. At my DDs previous school, it was no candy or nuts. So there were a lot of pretzels, Annie's bunnies and goldfish.

They eat party type junk food at the valentines, Halloween & Christmas parties. There might be cheese cubes and grapes mixed in, but it's mostly junk food.

Yes. They're telling you to stop buying checks. lol

This is the first year where DS has had a teacher who is big on promoting "healthy" snacks and has asked parents not to send candy in as treats. The previous 3 years were a free for all.
I am all about elementary kids getting to have some candy at parties. I was just surprised the parents of one and two year olds--and the daycare provider!!--were sending so much of it. One sent the most delicious bakery cookie. Jack will never know it's missing and I highly enjoyed it.
