We have fairly simple taxes...income, mortgage, donations, roths, and some home improvement stuff.
In the past we paid $300+ for a CPA when we had more complicated sceanrios with untaxes income, home office deductuons etc etc.
This year I wanted to try on our own. I did them in HRBlock and also in Turbotax online. I actually got the exact same results in each. TT had a little bit easier website to naivgate but HR Block was $10 to file state and federal (both sites are via ebates too). Tt was $68. I have no clue how they stay competitive with such a difference.
I had the same conclusion when I started using Tax Act. I did both TT and TA one year and TA actually got me a little more back, plus it was $40 cheaper. No brainer to switch.

I tried HR Block, Turbo Tax, and Tax Act. TT and TA wouldn't give me all the deductions I was eligible for unless I upgraded. I have used HR Block for the past 2 years. No complaints!

I've used H&R and TurboTax. When we've had more complicated taxes, turbo tax was better about explaining things and assisting with special forms that needed to be filled out an mailed in. Both were better than when we went to a tax place that basically said they couldn't help us!
I debated switching this year, but we've used Turbotax for like 5 years and the fact that they reload all of your information from the year makes me stay.
I switched to H&R Block last year and liked it. Just finished my 2015 taxes, and I really do like it better than Turbo Tax. Mine were kind of tricky this year, but nothing too difficult. There was a coupon code for $15 off, too!
