A friend of mine started as a guidance counselor at a local HS about 2-3 years ago. It's a very small, close knit community (probably far less than 200 students).
Since she started there, they have lost the principal and 4 students in 3 different auto accidents. The last just occurred this week.
I would like to send her a small gift and card just to let her know I'm thinking about her. Wine and/or dinner seem too celebratory. Any other ideas? Books? Trinkets?

I'm a school counselor at a HS level.
I can tell you wine is good for both celebration and sad times. Same with gift cards to dinner. Self care is HUGELY important and it sounds like with the time she's had, she'll be desperate for it.
Best gift I ever got during a shitty time was a huge box of hersheys, reeses and twix (my favorites) and a handwritten card from my bff that said "sometimes life just sucks"
So random but it was so right. It really made me feel a bit better in light of everything

Not a counselor, but a HS teacher. We had a series of years like that. I second the idea of wine and chocolate. She'll probably really appreciate knowing that you are thinking of her. You're a sweet friend!
