Just came back from the dr. Theyre going to schedule a c/s and most likely a hysterectomy afterwards @ 34.5 weeks or so... Yikes. I love the dr and his partner is supposed to be the best w accreta in the hospital so I feel good about it. I'm supposed to meet w the oncology surgeon who will be doing the hyst in a few weeks also to go over the details.
Oh man... Trying not to freak out :/
Did anyone's baby come early like this ? What should I expect? Dr said he will be in the nicu for 4 weeks most likely and that I should be able to breastfeed (is that by pumping & tube/bottle feeding? I am clueless.)

Oh wow! What a shock. It sounds like you are in good hands.
I can tell you my SILs experience with my nephew. She went into labor at 35.5 weeks. He spent 14 days in the special care nursery due to low blood sugar and breathing issues.
She pumped round the clock and once he was a few days old he was able to nurse. She had to supplement with formula for the first few weeks but she went on to nurse successfully until his 1st birthday.
Oh wow that's scary but you are in good hands. My cousin delivered right at 34 weeks. Her daughter is doing perfect and was in the NICU about a month. She wasn't able to suck at first so BFing or bottle feeding wasn't possible for awhile.
Obviously mine was a different experience, but likely there'll be a few NICU weeks. There's a good chance he'll be considered a "feeder-grower" from the get-go and could go home as early as 35 or 36 weeks. Unless there are other health concerns, they generally need to be over 4 pounds, able to maintain their own body temperature (which is based on weight), and be able to eat.

Will you need steroid shots for lung development?
Yea, they're doing the steroid shot the Friday before the surgery.
Ty for sharing your SIL's story! That's good to hear.

I hope it all goes well!
Great! Ty so much for this - hopefully this will be our case I told h and he loved hearing those specifics. He's really stressed :/
My BFF had her DD at 34 weeks via emergency c-section and the baby spent less than a week in the nicu and then was home. She just needed a few days to figure out how to eat and she was good to go.

I know how scary it is to be told you will be delivering your baby early. I had Leo at 36 weeks on the dot due to placenta previa.
In many ways it is so helpful to know a baby is coming early. We did the steroid shots nad he came out perfect.
Best of luck to you. My doc told me 34 weeks is golden. Everything that has developed has happened. After that is just gravy.
That's wonderful ! Yes my doc said 34-34.5 weeks is the "magic number" for lung development so they don't even do amino to check anymore, they just give steroids and everything should be ok. Thanks for sharing your story
I hope everything goes well! I asked my mom who is a NICU nurse and she said every baby is different but he could be on a feeding tube for a couple weeks then start taking bottles and nursing. You can ask for them to give donor milk until your milk comes in, or formula, and then they will give your pumped milk through the tube once it comes in.
wow that's a lot to process after one ob appt. I hope he's bigger and stronger and doesnt have a long NICU stay.
thanks! the OB i've been seeing up until now suspected it and the MRI confirimed it, this is the first time i've seen this doc but we all kind of suspected it was going this route so at least i was somewhat prepared :/ hooray for the internet! i was hoping they would do the c/s/hyst later like at 37-38 weeks though...

thanks! if he does formula at first will they be able to switch to bm later? i'm kind of curious about wether he will ever be able to nurse or if i am going to be EP-ing...

Good luck! I'm so glad you have such a great team behind you!
H wasn't a premie, but was born not knowing how to suck. He was on formula while I pumped for days until my milk came in and I could then feed him the pumped bm with formula supplement. After that I had to try to latch him at every feeding, feed him the expressed bm, supplement with formula and then pump for the next feeding.
It was tough, but not impossible. It took about two weeks to be able to pump and nurse him completely on bm and then another week or so get his latch right. By about 4 weeks we were nursing like anyone else.

Katelyn was on formula until my milk came in on day 5-6. I EP'd for the first two weeks. She ended up nursing for me, I was able to drop the nipple shield around a month and she refused bottles until 7 months even at daycare when I went back to work at 8 weeks (nursed her at lunch and before after, she was on an every 4 hour feeding schedule during the day and then reverse cycled at home).
That's a lot to process. I hope everything goes smoothly. It sounds like you're taking everything in stride. Lots of prayers for a healthy baby and a short NICU stay!
