It bugs me when people come up with a solution that is not actually an option. Lower middle class people can just get daycare assistance... In my state if you have two parents are making minimum wage, if they both average 32 or more hours per week than they will not qualify for daycare assistance if they only have one child.

What a bunch of assholes. What the hell does cloth diapering have to do with anything? And all the people with anecdotes...I am just not in the mood before coffee.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
The people suggesting she watches other children for money made my eyes bug out. I am not paying someone to watch my child when theirs needs to be held all day, every day. WTF?
Serious question though - I thought there was government assistance for when you have a special needs child who requires care from a stay-at-home parent. I might be wrong, but would SS Disability cover this? I could have sworn I read there are options.
I took the OP to mean that in her question, not that she wants her friend to get on welfare and get an EBT card so she can buy junk and cigarettes.

I think there is, but it would have to be associated with some sort of diagnosis. Baby who wants to be held could be linked to a medical issue, or it could be a bunch of other things.
It's a hard place to be for that mom/dad, for sure. DD cried 24/7 for the first 4 months of her life (due to allergies/reflux) and it was trying to say the least.

Yes, SSI (supplemental security income) could cover this but a baby who cries with no other impairment would not qualify in my opinion. SSI is meant for a situation where the parent actually can't work or has to take excessive time off etc. I believe they have to meet the income requirements as well (I actually looked into it for my parents - my nephew would have qualified under the evaluation process but their income would have excluded them.) Maybe if there was an impairment that went along with the excessive crying.

I'm always amazed at the info and assumptions that gets thrown around in threads like that. Canadians pay 39% income tax! FMLA pays 2/3 of your salary!
It sounds like OP's friend is already barebones in the budget, and now she's facing an urgent childcare issue. I remember feeling so lost as a new mom when faced with deciding what clothes to dress my baby in for the day, let alone big decisions like this. I hope they can either find a new (good) daycare situation, or make it work as a SAHM.
i like the people who want her to rent out a room to someone on Craig's list. b/c inviting and internet stranger to live in a house with a screaming infant sounds awesome for everyone.
Seriously. She has gotten my permanent side-eye ever since she posted on the Pets board about not being able to afford to keep her dog indoors; therefore it had to be an outside dog. Nevertheless, the bitch was always posting on the travel board about trips to Europe. Oh yeah and then there is fat genes…..
I don't understand the daycare issue here. What is a "high needs" baby?
DD would probably have been called a "high needs baby", she hated being set down anywhere. I was able to take her to work with me and I wore her all of the time, standing at my desk and bouncing up and down for the first 8 months of her life. I'm guessing that this is just a bad daycare situation and that the caregiver was looking for an easy baby so she could make some $ on the side while homeschooling her kids.

That's how I feel too. DD was probably a "high needs baby" too but that's what swings and paci's and TVs are for.
