If they can manage to stall for a whole year, that makes this upcoming election even more important. The thought of that stresses me out about it even more.

My cousin just posted this on fb. My first thought was to be glad that Obama was still in office. I didn't know he might not be able to appoint someone ugh
I want to say something to those who are "glad" he's dead.
He was not an "evil" human being - it's such a shallow understanding of who he was. He was father to 9 children, he had a wife, he was a person. He wasn't a murderer or a child rapist. He was a conservative Supreme Court justice with a brilliant legal mind who, by all accounts, was a really good guy. I've always had a deep seated respect for the man.
And P.S. He was one of the greatest supporters of free speech and prisoners rights.

Not good. Im really going to need the brothers and sisters of the revolution and "her" Democrats to come together by the time the general comes around.
My immediate thought is that of course they won't approve anyone that Obama tries to appoint. They'll fight him on anything just on...let's say, principle. But, they need to be smart about it. Yes, it's possible that the republicans win the White House and get their own appointment. But, it's also possible that they DON'T win the White House AND that they aren't the legislative majority anymore. Then, they lose some of their leverage and risk having a more liberal addition to the SCOTUS. IMO, the republicans would be more likely to "win" if they would approve a moderate appointee from Obama. And I think he is more than aware of how careful he needs to be with who he chooses.

Interesting points. I do hope he chooses a moderate and is able to get someone appointed. I think it's important to keep the Supreme Court full if all possible.

It's already being use as a political issue. This is going to throw everything on its head.
And I didn't mean I was glad to see him dead, I'm just not sad he's dead. It is sad he died, he will be missed by many people who loved him dearly. I just feel no emotional connection to him.

I have nothing against him as a person. He just planned to continue to be 1/9 of the most important group in our country until he died. And during his tenure, he made many decisions that went against things I am fundamentally in favor of. His absence from the court will not be missed by me. I am hopeful about a more moderate or possible liberal replacement.

This.
I am very shocked reading some of these comments.
Frankly, I am disgusted and appalled.
I disagree with many of you politically, but I would NEVER not be sad at the death of another human being due to interpretation of the Constitution or political views. Think about your words and I think you also need to look inside your hearts.
I did not post this to say I was glad he is dead. I hope it wasn't taken that way... I only see a single comment that seems to imply they are glad but maybe I'm not reading others right.

One comment is all it takes to ensure a good liberal scolding with a healthy dose of "I'm a better person than you". Extreme eye rolls at the dramatics.

Is this directed towards me? This isn't drama. This isn't holier than thou. This is about people. This is about seeing each other.
Imagine this thread was about Ginsberg or God forbid president Obama. Imagine. I would hope you would be horrified.

This is exactly how it read and it eclipsed your point.
