My H and I have signed up for our first half marathon, on March 20th. A couple friends of ours have invited us to run a 5k on the day when we are supposed to do our longest training run (12 miles, 3/5). I would like to do this race, as we don't get to run with them often. Would it be ok to race the 5k and then run the rest of the long run later that day? Or should I do the 5k and then the full long run later that day, or the next day?
I'm hoping the experienced people here will know what we should do
Is there any way that you could run (not race, just run) the 5k and then keep going? If not, I would do your long run a few days ahead or after. It's so hard to balance training and racing!

Thanks, I'll discuss these rec's with my H and see what we want to do. I also forgot we might have a soccer game the day after that 5k, which is another wrench in the plan. Oy.
