My boob is fucked the fuck up. Molly's cutting molars and sucked the crap off my nipple, and then I think i got an infection in a duct or gland as a result. It HURTS. I'm hanging on until Monday and doing all the usual tricks. Has anyone ever had a fine needle aspiration for this? Tell me about it? Tia.
Gha! What? No! Go to urgent care and get an abx so you don't end up with mastitis, if you don't have it already.
Eta: How are you feeling otherwise? Any fever or fatigue? Maybe urgent care isn't necessary without those, but watch closely for those and get seen FAST if they appear, because you will feel AWFUL with a quickness.

My midwife said to call if it gets worse and she will prescribe an abx or see me, but otherwise to come in Monday. Does an antibiotic really work/help that much?

Sorry, I was editing while you were responding.
If you are truly infected, yes, you will feel some relief after one dose. BUT that's from the effects of infection (fatigue, fever, chills/aches), not the pain. You unfortunately still have to work out the block to get rid of the pain, which unfortunately isn't as immediate. You can take 800mg ibuprofen to help with the freaking agony until you can work through it.

That's why I'm powering through right now :-) No fever and I feel ok with Advil, besides the boob pain. I had clogged ducts with m and n and I had fevers and was eventually able to clear them, but it's just not working this time.
If you start to feel achy, take your temp because you can get mastitis very quickly.
As far as the pain, try taking a hot shower ( as hot as you an stand it) and let the water hit the affected area. Then, start pushing behind where you think the clog is, and slowly push toward your nipple. You can also try taking soy lecithin.

It hurts SO bad, but if you have a wide tooth comb, take it in the shower and kind of press in and "comb" your boob from cheat towards your nipple and alternate with massage. Nurse on all fours, and at the first sign of elevated temp or chills/aches, call in the abx. Clogs hurt so bad and so does mastitis. I'm so sorry and I hope you get it out before it progresses!!
Do you have a manual pump? I EP with a hospital rental but have had luck with a manual pump to clear clogged ducts. That and leaning over in the shower using the comb method like pp reccomend. Oh plus Advil. After having mastitis twice I'm super paranoid about clogged ducts. Seriously any fever or pink streaks call the on call OB/midwife for a prescription. It comes on super fast. Hope you feel better soon!
I had that done. Twice. Then they suggested I dry up that breast, as the clog (I had a galactocile) wouldn't go away. I did-but then the milk leaked sideways instead of healing!!! Haha. It was a mess.
Have you tried Lecithin?? Those pills were my saving grace for both kids. Also try popping your boob in a bowl of hot water. I also would pour hot water in a diaper and put that in my bra. But the lecithin was always the best!!!
I actually knew about lecithin but haven't tried. I've never heard of it helping! Thanks :-)
I think my mother in law got my bottle (was still at hospital with a jaundiced baby) at GNC or an herb place. It was the best. You may want to check with your LC though. I'm surprised they didn't already suggest it-mine did.

Good luck. I'll be thinking of you!!!!
Does lecithin work for an acute clog or just for prevention?

I only used it when I got clogs! Relief was usually within hours.

This is what I was going to say. Try super hard to clear it before it's mastitis because boob flu is the worst!

I didn't have the aspiration because mine wasn't caught in time (despite several trips to the doctor). I know my OB has done several since my issue, as she/we learned how quickly things could escalate. Depending on if they give you a pain killer ahead of time, it can be pretty painful, but the relief is immediate.
I'm glad you're in touch with your midwife and a lactation consultant. Please don't hesitate to have them call in an antibiotic, even if you don't have all of the tell-tale signs of mastitis. I didn't feel I was sick enough because I just had a very low grade fever and a VERY painful boob. Since I was missing the "feel like death" part, no one was too concerned. I was like that for well over a week (on abx most of the time) & went from that to ER/OR in a matter of a few hours. (Immediate relief afterwards, and still able to nurse.)
I got some relief from sitting in a very hot bath, dangling my breast into the water, and manually expressing milk with a pretty deep massage. And ibuprofen. (Though, in hindsight, the ibuprofen for pain kept my fever down, which then made everyone less concerned about my situation.)
I should state, even after taking the lecithin, still use warm compress like a wet diaper/bowl of warm water or shower with lots of massage to try and get the clog out!
lilac05, I was treated for mastitis and the drugs did no good. I'm sorry you ended up in the ER/OR. I swear, before DDs open hear surgery, breastfeeding was the hardest thing I'd ever done. I'm serious! It was SO hard, but so worth it.
Ugh, that is the worst. Do you have any type of heating pad to keep on the sore spot? I have these booby tubes. You heat them in the microwave and keep them on the sore spot as much as possible, especially right before a feeding. I also massaged the clogged duct as much as possible.
Clogs and mastitis are so painful, I'm sorry you are dealing with that pain.
I also used a heating pad before (& during, if I could balance it) and an ice pack after nursing to help with the pain/swelling.
My FB breastfeeding group always suggests having your husband "help" because his suck is stronger than baby's. I refused, nothing else worked, and I ended up having surgery. I've never regretted skipping that advice, but they swear it works.

emsumm, yes, I had to do this more than once. Not going to lie, it hurt like a bitch but the relief was amazing. The obj actually sent me home with a pack of sterile surgical needles so I could do it myself.
