We're currently thinking of two possibilities for travel this summer (late July or early August). All three of us, L will be 2y3m. We can only do one trip.
Option 1: Iceland -we've never been -flights about $2400 for the three of us -5 or 6 hour flight -plan to stay in Reykjavik for a few days and then drive around for a few days, maybe 8-9 days total staying in three different places
Option 2: British Columbia and San Francisco -H and I have both been but not L -this trip would be more about seeing people -BIL/SIL and a couple of good friends live in BC and then a very close friend of mine who I haven't seen in 4 years just moved there (she was living in Thailand) -would fly to Vancouver, do some driving in BC, and then fly Portland to SF -flights would be more but accommodation would be less as we have people to stay with -H and I both love SF but we've been (me once, him a handful of times)
I really want to do both but it's not possible. I like the idea of adventure and seeing somewhere new with Iceland but I really love the people that we'd be visiting in option 2.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Iceland would be fun but I've heard it's like Vegas in that after 3-4 days that's the point where you've seen pretty much everything you can. Could you do a stopover in Iceland and continue to Europe with another stopover on the way back?

That's a good point. Iceland Air really plays up their stop overs. We've been most places in Western Europe (used to live in Berlin and Brussels) but I'm sure we could find somewhere we'd want to revisit.
Iceland would be awesome with kids! I got stuck there for almost an extra week during hurricane Irene and still found tons to do. I would love to go back with my daughter. Also, do not stay at hotel ca.bin. Bedbugs. Trust me.
