I also didn't understand the low futon pad on the ground is better than just putting the mattress on the ground. It's like a difference of 3 inches and a mattress is way more comfy than a futon pad. I'm planning to put the mattress on the ground in our new house when we move because DD has a tendency to roll out of the bed. It's just common sense. Not because I'm trying to be ergonomically hip.
And lots of indigenous cultures had baby carriers long before Tulas were all the FB rage. So no, not buying the in-arms parent thing making you more fit either.
I grew up without a microwave and dishwasher. The novelty has yet to wear off.
Us too! Fast forward to now, my parents can't live without either. Same folks who grew up without electricity. Glad to see they've come around to modern times.
I ask if she has ever tried to wrestle a little tiny boneless grizzly bear because that is what carrying my baby is like. He would rather be running off and doing craziness than being held so yes, he is often in a containment device. I'm glad her lifestyle works for her but I hate the idea that one person's right is universal.

My mom now has a toaster oven, so that's something. I think she wishes she had pushed harder for a dishwasher in their new kitchen.
I grew up without a dishwasher, air conditioning, or cable tv. Now I have all three and my mom visits all the time, haha.
Having J in our bedroom til the age of two was long enough. I bought something from a local mom the other day, and she even asked how I "maintained" a relationship with my husband, lol.
The idea of monkey bars inside is kind of fun to me. But, like, in a I'd like to visit that place kind of way. I certainly don't want to live it.
Also, the bed-sharing, sex thing popped in my head almost immediately. Holy hell. I do not need to share a room with my children. I kicked DS into the nursery at 6 weeks. Lol
Also I can't get on board with the family bedroom. I'm not talking co-sleeping when they're little, but hey, when do the parents have sex then if they're sharing a room with the kids.
Seeing it in practice is even worse! My knees are hips are hurting just thinking about having to get from sitting on the ground to standing up multiple times a day. And that is not because I am not active!

Interesting you mention that... sitting rising test

I pretty much live on the floor. I find it more comfortable than sitting upright on a couch honestly. Maybe because I'm short and furniture is just designed to tall to be comfortable for my legs, and too deep for my back to reach. Most comfortable of all is laying on the couch of course
We also sleep on a mattress on the floor but that is just because we don't have the money to buy an unnecessary bed frame.
I also grew up with a mix of stuff. At my mom's house there was no tv, no junk food, no microwave, and no dishwasher. Dad had all those things however. I binged when I lived with him half the year.

Even with my arthritis, I can do this "test" with no problem unless it's cool and damp and I am having a bad joint day. And surprisingly - I have a bed and a couch and don't eat on the floor.

One thing I really don't like about visiting family is that we are generally all stuck in one bedroom. I would not do that voluntarily unless there was no other choice. Like many things, there's a good concept in there - be more active- but it's been completely overshadowed by how ridiculously far she takes it.
I passed the sitting standing test too! Zero points! I am going to live forever!
I saw an article on this a while back. I found a house tour of her house she on YouTube. No thanks...not appealing to me at all. My kids have monkey bars and a rock climbing wall outside, that's enough for me
