Given that I think fewer people should be going to college, his higher ed plans are, IMO, worth little to America.
All of his educational energy and resources-- all of them, and HRC's, and everyone else's-- should be directed at K-12: making play, experimentation, exploration, reading (including choice-based reading), strong vo-tech programs, certification programs, inquiry, and revision all living and actual realities.
I also think theBerners who love this idea because they think it benefits them are likely already in college and I doubt this will be retroactive. It will take 1-2 years to implement. I am sure these same people would bitch and moan about the unfairness if the class of 2025 got free tuition but they still had Loans because they went to school too early.
Won't it take longer to implement? I can't imagine the administrative set-up for this.
This is complex because there are definitely many individuals who are right.on.the.edge financially and they are literally one bad car repair bill from never completing their degree. Even just $500, or $200 can lift them over a hurdle in their way. This is especially true of working adults with children who are eeking out a class or 2 a year. The Gates Foundation has a page on their website about this topic. Anyway, I hate to throw out the idea and obvs. This needs real, detailed solutions. I'm just so sick of Bernie getting away with inspiring sound bites w/o having to prove how he'll do any of it.
