Man, our EI Birth to 3 program is not through the school district, so it only took about 6 wks. BUT I have to call the district today, as we were told by the pedi yesterday that he needs another eval and possibly more therapy.
No you have me on edge! I hope it's streamlined.
IME, it varies HUGELY from state to state. Virginia has been a total 180 from Texas. It may also be easier since you've been through the system.
Interestingly, the SLP we saw today told us that if when we get to to making the kindergarten decision, she almost always encourages parents to enroll their young 5s, because there are so many more services available to them IN school than not.
I am an administrator in a school in southeast Virginia. Virginia allows a 65 day administrative timeline (work days basically) to complete testing. I know everyone I work with tries to complete everything sooner but they are pretty heavy loaded, especially as the year goes on. If she is identified, you might ask about ESY (extended school year) which could provide her services over the summer. However, since she hasn't started school, I am not sure if she'd be eligible. My friend's son was just identified for speech needs outside the school and had the eval through the school in early April and will have the follow up appt. in early May for results. However, she has a friend who is a SLP so she is working with her son once a week for $30 a session which is much cheaper than the outside company and she is noticing a difference already. Do you know any SLPs or maybe you could post an ad somewhere looking for someone who wants to do it on the side.
