I don't mind gray next to wood, but I prefer flooring color to be cohesive. I feel like it draws attention to the transition and more attention to the floors rather than the whole space.
We have that in our house and we think it looks good but I am biased. We only have tile in baths and laundry so there are thresholds, though. All main areas including kitchen have wood floors.

We have light/medium gray tiles in entry and kitchen. These areas both meet up with the Dining room that has brown wood floors (have a gray tinge to them). I love them. We are planning on putting the wood in the LR next, and by "we" I mean DH lol
I've heard wood floors referred to as the denim of flooring. meaning they are almost a neutral. I would't worry about putting them next to grey tile. In fact, I'm pretty sure we will have the same transition in our new house.
