Anyone had to fire their contractor?

We gave them a down payment because it was going to be kitchen and bath. I'm sure they haven't used all of it for supplies. So we're going to have to ask for some of it back.

We're about to! I don't know what to do. He claims he's ordered the cabinets for the kitchen but then we haven't heard from him in three weeks. The last communication my husband heard was that he had to move his shop by May 15th. My husband sent him a text last night saying we wanted it done and we need to know when he would be done. Never heard back. My husband said if he doesn't respond by this afternoon, he was going to tell him we're going to find someone else. We have paid him for the cabinet pulls. So I guess if we fire him I need to get the pulls at least. He's kinda my husband's friend so I'm sure this will fracture their friendship.

Nope, my workers are super slow to finish, always go over budget and find problems, and sometimes leave holes in my walls for months, but I can't fire them b/c then nobody would do it - oh and they are me, DH, my ILs, and my parents.

Sorry you have to go through this, I don't know anyone who has had to fire a subcontractor recently.
