I need some ideas! PIP yours or one you love. We are probably going to add one soon, and I can't decide between all the options. Do I want glass mosaic, subway tile, something else? Too many choices, I don't think I could ever design a house lol
Here is our kitchen if it helps. We are replacing appliances with stainless steel with a few months. Someday I would love new counters, wood floors, and to paint the cabinets white. But... none of that will happen for awhile.
No pip because we only have ugly green laminate, BUT after getting Windows and new siding on the house ( so like 3 yrs away) I'm getting a white quartz countertop with a light blue subway tile backsplash. I cannot wait.
Ours is yellow honey onyx mini brick. I chose it when we first moved in 6 years ago and I still love it. I think the fact it is stone has a lot to do with that.
Can you wait until you can do the countertop change you want? I feel like when you do these things in bits and pieces you can end up having regret, things being disjointed or tire of what you previously did. If you can't wait, I would stick to something traditional and timeless. I really feel that stone tile is pretty timeless. I wouldn't go with a white subway tile or a novelty tile like the arabesque shaped tiles... I think those are pretty trendy along with glass mosaic tile, which I see trending out ( sorry guys don't hate me!) unless your home is pretty contemporary/modern in style.
I think if you went with a natural stone backsplash in a subway pattern, basket weave, or some other novelty pattern it would be much safer. I would stick to something that complements your flooring.
Check out tilebar.com and their IG feed. They have gorgeous natural stone tile inspiration.
carawestt we will probably be here for a long time so I don't take that into consideration when picking finishes (: Actually though we just had an appraisal and it was defined as upgraded backsplash tile so the appraiser thought it was high end vs normal subway tile haha
That's nice! We probably will only be here a couple more years but I would love something like that in another home.
carawestt I disagree with your H! It's a neutral colour in a familiar but not overused pattern. I also think that back splashes typically aren't make or break for people when they buy a house.

I love that @destinationunknown ! I saw that at Home Depot recently and told my H that I'd like something like that when we remodel our kitchen. Your whole kitchen is gorgeous.
We are still deciding what we are going to do, but we are currently leaning toward white subway tile but with a beveled edge to give it a little more visual interest
I could wait for counters, but realistically those are probably 5-10 years out :/ I'd like to do wood floors first so hopefully those will happen in 3-5!
Thanks for all the examples! I think we're going out to look at some in person today.
Well we looked at like 800 backsplash options today. My husband said no to while subway tile. Here are my current favorites that we saw. I obviously have no clue what style I want other than beige/grey/white lol
I love the clear glass took mixed in with the smaller mosaic tiles.
Will you be doing it yourself? One of the reasons we went with subway because my Dh was doing it and he needed something not too difficult yet would still look nice.
The smaller mosaic tiles can be a bitch to out on if you need to do a lot of cutting and edging.

and you need to stagger them right / space them perfectly otherwise you can see where the sheets connect.

He is doing it himself. He's done one before in our last house but isn't an expert or anything.

Tiling can be such a pita but as long as he's patient and careful I'm sure it will turn out awesome!
I would do one of these two, which will look great and have a cohesive feeling with your cabinets, counters and floors as they are now, but leave you lots of room for options for many counter, cabinet and flooring options later. Have fun!!! Tiling is one of my most favorite things ever. I have done so much tiling and grouting in our home. It's so cathartic.
What's the space above your stove look like? Sometimes it looks amazing to continue the tile to the ceiling in spaces like that instead of just straight across in a line. I did that over our sink... Tiled all around the window up to the soffit. I feel like it creates the illusion of a bigger space and doesn't section it off.
If concerned about spacing, using the + plastic shaped spacers is an easy way to make sure everything is spaced correctly.
lolaburns thanks for the advice! This is above the stove. We have short cabinets and a tall ceiling. We will be replacing the range hood when to replace the stove soon. Not sure with what kind yet though.
